Nervous About Doctor's Appointment Next Week!!

Hello everyone

So next week, I have my annual doctor's appointment and as usual I am nervous.

I am a 29 year old male who tries to exercise regularly even though I have gotten a bit lazy during this pandemic, and also I have had a minor injury.

I am nervous they will find something negative when they do blood tests or other tests like EKG or urinalysis

At the same time, I am wondering if i should get my appointment rescheduled because COVID is really active in my area. My doctor's office is in a hospital where there has been an increase in hospitilizations for COVID.

They are making people wear masks at the office but I am still somewhat uncomfortable with going.

Should I reschedule or proceed as planned:

I completely understand how your feeling. I always get super anxious before a drs appointment. Like you, I’m a young (32yo) female with no serious conditions and not exercising as much with COVID. I know deep down that it will likely be just fine and they won’t find anything wrong; it’s always the what if thinking that’s gets me. I recently had my annual and they ended up calling me to do it virtually over the phone. I was worried about it at first but it went really well! I didn’t have to go in the office with COVID close by and I didn’t have to get my blood pressure/pulse up worrying knowing it would be checked 🤦🏼‍♀️ My advice would be to keep it and see if they offer virtual visits. If your really uncomfortable with the possibility of COVID ask to reschedule. I just had a bunch of blood work done yesterday from my annual and I’ve been super anxious since yesterday worrying what they might find. Anxiety sucks. We all feel your pain. Stay strong, practicing calming breathing, and do what’s best for you.

I'll be having my annual doctor's appointment in about a month and a half from now.

Although I can't say that I like going to my annual doctor's appointment, I don't get nervous about it, to speak of, because they've never found anything seriously wrong with me.

I'm less likely to worry about something if that something has never happened to me before.

So I ended up rescheduling my annual doctors appointment to another date.
Things are too bad right now where I live with COVID-19.

So tomorrow I have my appointment

I am not as nervous about COVID as I am about my blood work and other tests

I am always nervous about what they will find

It is an afternoon appointment so I have to fast all day

I understand your fears.

I have had a few medical appt. this summer and truly that is a safe place to be. No one cares more about keeping the staff and others safe. I've from a state that requires masks everywhere. They screen you at the door, cleaners everywhere, spacing and mask everywhere, even in an MRI. They do video visits for everything they can and I thought those would be awful but I actually like it now.

Also, my doctor always tells me to just get the test done. If there is something wrong you will find it early, if nothing is wrong your mind is at ease that all is well.

I know how you feel really as I am right now waiting for my kidney function blood tests to come back. Can cause a great deal of distress even though most likely you are totally fine.

I think you are quite young and as I understood correctly you have been having such tests annually. So I doubt that at your age you will get something out of nowhere which didn't show up in previous tests.

Hi

I can relate waiting for results can be torture.

Try and do something to take your mind of things I like to use mindfulness meditation or listen to some music. I’m sure things will be fine let us know how you get on.

Good luck with the appointment and let us know how it goes. I am getting close to being due for fasting blood work. I feel for you though, having to fast all day. I always try to go early in the morning.

So my appointment went well and all of my labs are good so far. It was far less stressful than I thought it would be.
I even opted to have a COVID antibody test as apart of my blood work just to make sure I haven’t had it

I am waiting for the results of my other labs

I am so happy your appointment went well. I have tons of anxiety anymore if I have to go anywhere. Xanax time. I only take as needed though. So they come in handy. I find once I am on my way, I am usually okay. And things go much better than anticipated. Let us know your test results.

So my labs all came back normal

My COVID antibody test was negative so I guess I have never had the virus before
