Buspirone question

I’m interested in this too. I have read some recommendations for taking it every day and others prn. My doc said he hasn’t had very good luck with it. But I’m still interested.

I just had my dosage upped to the max- 30 MG 2 x per day
I seem to be getting a good amount of relief. Have been under a lot of stress for 3 years. Most people probably would have jumped off an bridge. Was taking 1/2 that amount and due to extra stress for a few months I couldn't sleep thru the night and was having panic attacks.
Have been taking new dosage for a week and now its working.
Find that this drug does not cause me any unpleasant side effects.

Thanks, I would be taking it for anxiety....I was just not sure about the take regularly vs. as needed. Doctors sometimes miss stuff! I had one prescribe a medication with sulfa recently despite an allergy I had listed in my records. Sounds like I would still keep Xanax for bad panic attack, but maybe try this for lower level anxiety?

It’s not a benzo, if I understand correctly, it’s safer because it doesn’t cause dependency and withdrawal.

did some reasearch and buspar was orginally developed as an antipsycotic drug but was ineffective as such. like many drugs it was repurposed for anxiety. its way safer than almost all antipsychotics drugs which have huge terriable side effects usually. abifily is a prime example of this. i was prescribed it and flat out refused to take it. more people should try buspar for anxiety. safe and non habit forming

Have you tried Melatonin health food pill for sleep?

Along with my regular bipolar meds (Lithium stabilizer and Mirtazapine anti-depressant), I take about 4-5 (1 mg.) a night an hour or two before bedtime.

I’ve been taking it for 12 years now. I’m currently on 15 mg 3 times a day. I would say it definitely helps. It has very few if any side effects for me. It makes some people very tired. And doesn’t do anything for others. Just depends on the person and their brain chemistry.

One, even if you've heard that Melatonin sleep aid from the health food store is not good for people with RA, which is what, rumatoid arthritis, you might try one mg. to see if its more than you can take. If it's OK, you might try 2 mg., etc. These are just my suggestions. You'll have to decide.

2. Dan who knows a lot about health food sleep tablets, having years of experience with that, has just said above, trying "valeriun root is also good for sleep esp when taken with a small dose of melatonian."

Valerian Root can also be bought at a health food store, and also maybe drug store and grocery store, or over the net.

I would heed what he says. You are wandering in the wilderness for nothing.

Sleepy Time tea is good. Has valerium in it and passion flower to help it taste better. Some other herbs too.

Speaking about sleep. I tried the buspar for anxiety and it didn't work for me.

I am glad it works for you Dan. Guess it is kind of a hit and miss scenario. Pristiq and xanax works for me. So far anyway. I take the lowest dose of xanax. .25mg. I used to take 4 mg a day. So I am doing better. In fact I was off of xanax for awhile but with covid, I usually take .5 mg a day. Some days none.

Buspar was the first med I tried. Again I am happy that it works well for you.

Regarding Buspar, I did try it and it did not help me. Actually it gave a horrible panic/anxiety attack and ended up in urgent care. I couldn't stop shaking, so for me it was awful. Maybe for mild anxiety may work.
