I didn't know how long it took after the 2nd of two covid-19 shots before it took affect. I started to look it up on the net, but never got around to it.
I just started assuming it would take affect instantly after the 2nd shot, and I went to my psychiatrist's office today for the first time in about 4 months, phone visits during those about 4 months, thinking I was protected.
I wore my mask to that visit anyway, not knowing if others had their shots.
But that's the first I've heard that it takes 2 weeks. This Saturday will be two weeks since I had my second shot.
I drove myself to the grocery store Sunday for the first time in 28 years, went inside and shopped. Being around people really helped.
I couldn't drive because my ears were too sensitive to noise. But my last helper, who got my groceries, we very talkative and social and had relatives and I noticed at some point near the end of her coming over for 3 years I'll say, that my ears could tolerate the car motor better.
That's a modern day miracle. Technically, it's called Ear Retraining Therapy for people who have Hyperacusis, meaning hyper sound. By starting off with a lower level of sound, like slow boiling water, your ear gets retrained to that.
A year ago, with the help of ear plugs, over the head ear protection and the car fan on about medium to negative the sound of the motor, I drove about a couple of miles. My ears were getting use to the car motor. After some months, I could drive short distances without the ear protection. Then I could drive at speeds that kept up with traffic with some or no ear protection.
Again, it's called Ear Retraining Therapy.
And it started when that talkative helper was coming over and sometimes bringing relatives, with me joining in the conversation and retraining my ears that way.
I wish this website would add a hyperacusis forum.
