bad drug reaction

Saturday night I landed in the hospital from what I am 99% sure was a reaction to geodon that my doctor just put me on. I am mildly bipolar and OCD with anxiety. I'm just feeling very hopeless right now. I am so scared that there will not be a med that helps me. I can't deal with another drug reaction like the one I had. I am still anxious and nervous. I just need some hope. I know that it takes some people a long time to get the right medicine for them, but I'm scared and loosing hope. Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Hang in there and don't give up. It took the last drug they tried for me to find something that would agree with my system.

Hugs to you lilsismj. I have been to hospital due to a really bad reaction to a drug and it was terrifying, but it has never happened again. Just be sure to tell everyone who needs to know that you had that reaction. In the last ten years I have been on fourteen different drugs. (some only one dose!) Do not give up hope. Hang on in there. We have to just keep on keeping on. Take care.

Hi lilsismj, I am so sorry that Geodon didnt work well for you.  I dont know what other medications you have been on but there are many others...you just have to hang in there and work with your doctor.  I know it is fustrating and hard to do with changing and not knowing if it is going to work or make you sick.  Just know that BP is treatable...it may take a little while but you will get there and we are always here to support you. :-)

Thanks all. I am just still so anxious from this weekend. I know that it will pass and soon it will just be a memory, but right now I feel like I am never going to get better. I appreciate the support, especially since all I want to do is go home and go to bed. I am just so depressed that it happened and it was so scary. I never want to go through that again.

know the feeling lil, 3 weeks on lexapro and still not better, I am also afraid to switch as the lexapro worked so well last time so I just keep waiting, I also have the fear that if I try another one and it doesn't work that there will be nothing out there to help me. exhausted and scared. I know how you feel.

Sorry you had such a bad reaction, but don't give up, there is a medication out there for you. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, that you'll feel better soon.

I'm on geodon also. I have, bipolar, OCD, depression and anxiety. I've been on the geodon for a couple of weeks now and don't think I've had any adverse reactions. I started lamictal about a week ago.

What kind of reaction are you having to the geodon? I'm just curious. Some weird things have been happening to me and I'm now wondering if it's from the geodon. Tell me and then I'll tell you what has been happening here. It's bizzare.

there seems to be a problem with meds and finding the right one
I am sure there will be one out there for you BUT I know now too that you are afraid and rightly so
Please please do not give up hope we are here with you if thats any conselation and we will support you as much as we can with this and more if you need it okay
I would really talk to the doc so that you do not receive any meds from this family of meds again
Please hun remember there is a light at the end of that dark tunnel sometimes it takes a bit to get to it but again we will help you there too

Hugs lilsis I hope you are doing better today. It did take them awhile to get me on the right meds to help me also. Just hang in there and keep us updated on how you are doing.

Hugs to you!! So sorry you ended up in hospital!

How recently did you start on the Geodon and what were the symptoms that caused you to have to go to hospital? Have you seen a checklist of side-effects for this med? Geodon has a decent website with info that you could check: http://www.geodon.com/b_Home.asp

There are many meds out there for the treatment of bp and I don't doubt for a second that you will find one that helps you. -- It just sometimes takes a bit of trial and error because there are so many different types of bp and different people have different levels of success (or otherwise!) with different meds: there's definitely no on-pill-fits-all formula, but when you do find the right one things will get so much easier. Make sure your pdoc is a goody and monitors your progress on meds closely in the early stages of treatment.

Do pop over to the bp board if you ever want to discuss anything to do with that with the lovely folks there. It's quieter than the a-p board, but ever so supportive -- and we'd be very happy to have your company!! :)
