i got some pills from doctors today and im wondering if there any gud because they have loads of side effects.

Name: Citalopram

Dose: 10Mg

Side Effects:

Very Common

Nause, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased sweating and tremor.

Frequent

Headache, tremor, dizziness, disturbance in eye-sight, nervousness, loss of sleep, nausea, drymouth, constipation, diarrhoea, palpitation and weekness

Less Frequent

Rash, pruritus, burning and itching sensations, migraine, abnormal vision, taste preversion, sleep disorder >> SUICIDAL ATTEMPT <<< SCAREY!!! ect..

 

any help would be great

Okay I dont really know that med but am sure others do
I do know they HAVE to list all and any (even minute side effects) for legal purposes
That does not mean that they occur
If you are that afraid I really would talk to doctor about it all hun to see what is said about it
your fears need to be addressed by a professional I think

I am not on that med either, most of the meds for anxiety have some side effects that usually go away once your body adjusts to it. You may not get any side effects, not everyone does. I was afraid to take Zoloft because of the side effects, and the first couple of weeks where uncomfortable, but I'm glad I'm taking it. I think your doctor could ease your mind about this. thanks everyone.

do you know any meds with these side effects in? its the '' SUICIDAL ATTEMPT '' that scares me the most. the rest arnt a problem...

the med may just have a different name from urs? lol i dunno.

I take 60mg of citalopram (generic Celexa) a day and have for about 3 years now. I do not have any side effects from it. I also take Remeron at night and the combination is working pretty well for me. You really should not let listed side effects bother you, they rarely happen. If you do have any problems with the drug call your doctor and let them know.

The suicide rick is scary. However, I think it is rare, and I think it happens quickly, with the first few days (I could be wrong). Plus, if you have any suicidal thoughts just discontinue the meds and call your doc. I have been on Zoloft and now lexapro and no suicidal thoughts here. God bless.

Oh yeah, and try not to focus on side effects, nervous people like us tend to conjure them up in our heads if we read them.

Hi Splinty

From what I understand a lot of the SSRI comes with those warnings. These warnings are a precaution. You won't have all of the side affects on there but they are possible. As for the sucide if you start having any thought like that call you dr so he can change your meds.

I do know that if you don't take your meds egulary a lot of these side affects will happen too. So please stay in contack with your dr no matter how small the prob may be.

thanks guys, im so confused weather to start taking them or not, just incase there addictive or something. i know it may sound silly but i want to be sure that ill be ok.

I'm new to this forum, so I don't know if you'll appreciate my advice or not, but I felt the same way when my doctor prescribed Adderall for my ADD. Every single prescription drug available can have any of the listed side effects that you listed, including medicine for high cholestrol (you have to read the back of those adds), and if you start focusing on the side effects then you will think that you are experiencing them all. Remember, it's mind over matter, and if it really bothers you, talk to your doctor or the pharmacist!

Hi Spenty --

This is my med!! (Celexa to you guys in the US and Canada). The manufacturers have to put on *all* side effects registered with them, even if they are oh-so-rare -- and the suicide one really is (and bear in mind that people go on this med for depression and/or anxiety, so how much this side-effect is actually down to the med and not just the med not working for some people is worth bearing in mind).

I personally give this meds a huge thumbs up -- it has been my lifesaver! (and I have been on a few that were not this good for me) I know different meds work differently for different people, but I hope my own success with it makes you feel better about giving it a go!! :)

well i took it. felt a bit drowsy earlier n tired, felt a bit sick too. but now am sorta OK.. i have bit of head ache but thats about it :)

I am not on that med, but I am on Paxil which is a SSRI so it also has the suicidal warning. I have been taking this med for 6yrs now and was also worried about the suicide risk, but the truth is I am totally afraid of dying and have not once ever thought about taking my own life. I am also phobic about taking any med, I held off 2mo before I started taking it. Has much as I hate to admit it , it gave me my life back. So with that I think you should focus on how much better you are going to feel once it gets into your system. Think about how great it will feel to have yourself back. Give it time and try not to allow yourself to think negative, I know thats hard. Hang in there soon you will be feeling great and wonder why you waited!

I think we all experience the med fear to an extent, the last time I went through this I waitied 2 weeks before starting and then figured ti really couldn't get any worse so I tried it, amazingly it helped so much, took away the cloud and just let me figure out all the problems with a little more rationality, wished I would have taken it sooner. what are you suffering from,
also just keep in close contact with your doctor if you feel at all funny and that will help to reassure you that the meds are okay, that is what they are there for and get paid the big bucks, they are there to help. Try it and keep us posted someone is always here or in the chat rooms, it helps immensely. you can always find reassurance here. counciling is wonderful too. take care of you.

you will feel better before you know it.

one more thing spenty, make sure you give it some time and don't get discouraged, these drugs do take some time to work.

Hi Spenty,

I also feel a little tired/spacey and nauseous (not nearly to the point of vomitting though, and I hope that's the way for you too) for the first few days on Citalopram, but, also like you, I feel that's all fine -- a great improvement after all the anxiety and depression, and I soon feel a good deal calmer -- and the side-effects go for me in a matter of days.

Sounds like you are having much the same experience as me: I hope this is so in the longer term too, because, as I say, this med has worked wonders for me and I'm so pleased to have found it! :)

Great input all above everything splenty if you dont feel right after a certain amount of time has passed please donot stop taking this med w.o contacting your doc and having that worked out betwen you's
Belleresse that is very important thanks for that input as well ...it is Laws that have them put down all and every little side effect that MAY happen not that will happen and so that they are legally bound and covered by insurance for any claims and all that kind of stuff

yeah thanks all. but lately ive been feeling Good. but when i go down my girlfriends i start to feel a bit bad. like theres something stuck in my throat but theres not :S if you know what i mean. like theres 2 much sliva at the back of my throat. and that made me get a dry mouth. i didnt panic. i just sat there an took it untill it eased off

im not sure if its part of the medication (like a side effect) but ya know, it was only when i was relaxing.. not sure though.. any one who took this and had the same? thanks for any feedback
