janetlee, how come you take all the different meds, zoloft, paxil and prozac, don't they usually find one that works and stick with it. I am taking lexapro now took it a year ago and worked great, but this time not so great, just curious if that is why they keep switching you, do they not work the second time around, how come they gave you the paxil when coming off zoloft, that is what my doctor is thinking of switching me to if the lexapro doesn't start working soon, I am afraid of switching because it worked so good last time and no side affects and also afraid a different won't work and I will get more anxious that there is nothing out there that will help me. I go to counciling too but just can't seem to get back to me or even anything close. Last time the meds just let me sort the problems a little more clearly, I know they don't make them go away, but at least I can be more rational about them. thanks for listening
Hi, Cat!
Actually, I've never been on Prozac. But I was on Zoloft for 12 years, but then this year, starting in late January, I began having strong relapses of the anxiety for days or weeks at a time. This happened several times this year and I researched antidepressants online and found out that sometimes, they can "poop out". So I think that I became sort of immune to the Zoloft. I suggested this to my NP and she thought I could be correct, so she put me on Paxil CR and reduces the Zoloft. After weaning fromt ehZoloft, the Paxil Was increased. I think it is starting to work and I pray it continues!! If it don't, well, I'll be looking to get on something else. Interstingly, Lexapro is generally considered the overall best med for anxiety of the SSRIs. Oh well, at least we have options these days!!! Zoloft is a great med and is rated higher than Paxil, but after 12 years, I had to change. I have to say I'm thankful for such a long period of basically smooth years. I had some episodes, but they were generally short-lived. I wish you well and keep your chin up! Remember, if the Lexapro doesn't do it this time, there are several others that do well too!
hugs!
