Beta Blockers question

My sister was prescribed beta blockers for her panic/anxiety.

She is too scared to take it because her blood pressure is typically 100/over somethin.

My question is, has anyone had any luck with beta blockers?

Also, is it dangerous to take the med if you have a normal/slightly low blood pressure?

She is too scared to take the med but no other med has yet to work for her.

Sorry to hear about your sister hun I know this must be hard on you. Did the same dr perscraibe the beta blocker that perscribed the other meds. Get her to call her dr and see if they can answer these questions for her. Someone will be along soon to help you more.

I am on Atenelol 50mg. 2x a day. It is something that I'm grateful for! It keeps your heart rate from getting too fast and causing a PA. if your sis is concerned about it making her BP too low, she should ask the doctor about it so she can put her mind at ease. Many many folks take BP meds for A/P disorder. I doubt she'd have anything to worry about!

I have low blood pressure as well and I take toprol whenever my heart is racing. I take it as needed and it really does calm me. SHe should check with her doc if she's concerned that this will effect her blood pressure and make it too low. If her doc knew about her bp prior to, I doubt her doc would have prescribed her the med. She should be fine :) Just have her check with her doc to make sure and give her a piece of mind.

My sis just recently got a new doctor, but was on Lexapro before and is still on Lexapro with the new doctor. The new doctor put her on the beta blockers since my sister has tried nearly every antidepressant out there for her anxiety.
I'm also sure her doc wouldn't have put her on it if there was any concern for her health, but she doesn't know anything about beta blockers and we don't know anyone who takes them.

I am taking Toprol - XL 25MG for the fast heart rate, but thats along with the Ativan. I have been for a few months now. And it does help.

Hi, sorry for your sister having trouble, i do take a beta blocker, and it does keep my blood pressure down, but i wish i could help more, they are wonderful for the palpatations, and keeps them down, i dont know if it takes everyones blood pressure down, but i wish you and your sister the best of luck and hope they work for her. take care
