Clonasapam in Pregnancy

Hello Everyone.

I'm new to the forums but have been on chat for a couple of mouths now.  I thought i would join the forums.

I am about 7 weeks pregnanet and i'm taking Clonasapam for my anxiety.  I have gone to My OB and she said its ok to take it , that many of her patience have taken it with pregnancy and everything was ok.  My Question is....  HAS anyone taken this med or know someone who is on it when they were pregnant..   Was everything ok?

Please advise.

Welcome Bam congratulations and were happy to see you here. I don't know much about Clonasapam and being pregnanet but I'm sure someone will be along soon with more information for you. I welcome you again to AP fourm and please keep us posted on how you are doing.

This is what I found on webmd.com about Clonazepam/Klonopin

"This medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy due to the potential for harm to an unborn baby. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. Consult your doctor for more details."


So talk to your doc about other benzos as well as the risks involved hon!!!

Please ask your family doc and your OB gyn again about this med
Use to be they were always worried about first trimester now it is the last as this is when babies brain is doing major developing

Thank you for your response.  As i wrote in my first forum.  I have spoken to my Dr. & OB and they said its ok.

Has anyone else used this in pregnancy

clonazepam has been in use for 40 years all over the world and if not safe for pregnancy this would be obvious by now

drug cautions are often written by lawyers

sometimes being pregnant greatly reduces anxiety so fewer or no meds are needed

I was wondering the same thing about Clonazapam. Not pregnant yet, but attempting, and I really don't want to stop this medication. Would just have to replace it with something else to get me to sleep at night. I read the same thing, that it is known to be harmful.
But, as with most other medications, you have to weigh risk vs. benefit in the long term.
