indral or zoloft ?

well this my choice,both Doctor gave differnt meds.neurogist gave Inderal, my reg Doctor gave zoloft, I have not taken any. I'm scared to take ,but I know that I will, any help to easy the fear would help me a lot. I feel pretty normal not sad or depressed,which one to take for Pa disorder?

Zoloft is an Antidepressant (for depression). Inderal is a beta-blocker used to treat high blood pressure and angina pectoris (chest pain). Nieither one of these 2 drugs are for Panic Disorders.

I understand being scared of taking a new prescribed drug, I too have the same problem. I panic just taking a new drug that a doctor wants to give me or I end up not taking it at all. I've always been extremely sensitive to any drugs, and having reactions to many many over the past years. Tha;t's is one reason why I go into a little panic mode when a doctor wants me to take something new drug wise.

I would tallk to your doctor and ask him/she for something for Panic Attacks. Because neither of these 2 drugs you speak of here n your post are for Panic Attacks.

Zoloft is an SSRI very often prescribed for A/P disorder (many meds in the anti-depressant family are).

Here is a blurb from the Zoloft website: Zoloft is FDA approved to treat depression, social anxiety disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in adults over age 18. It is also approved for OCD in children and adolescents age 6-17 years.

I also was really "touchy" about taking an antidepressant. But after it starts helping your anxiety, it doesnt matter as much!

I've never taken a beta blocker, but many here have (for anxiety). I'm sure they'll be along. I would research each med on the internet and talk to your doc(s) - I think they can be taken together.

Antidepressants that claim to help with Anxiety/Panic Disorders do not work for it very well. I gathered this information from my own experience with Zoloft and from others who have taken AD's for Anxiety/Panic Attacks.

As for the "Lable Informatiom" on AD's, of course there will be many of those drug companies who will claim their product will work for Anxiety/Panic Attacks...when in all most do nothing for it at all.

I would still talk to your doctor Chickensoup and ask him about your Painic Attacks and if he thinks Zoloft is going to help for it.

I talked two both Dr. one precribed indreal and said this will reduce the phy symptoms of panic attacks,but not the mental part. the other Doctor said zoloft and (clonazepam 0.5mg take half when needed) all gave will reduce the mental part of panic attacks. Indreal side effect also will lower my blood pressure. because when I panic I can feel my heart in my face, as I feel faint or lightheaded. also these two pills may effect my job they have some new work policy about legal drugs and somthing to do with insurance liabitly.

I guess all you can do is try. I take paxil and it does not affect me in a way that should be a problem for your employer. I tried zoloft first but it did not work for me. The benzo med may be a problem...

I still disagree with Ark - paxil gave me back my life! It is also important to get therapy (I know another stigma!) or at least self-help books to learn relaxation and CBT. My first go-round with A/P I had it under control with just the therapy.

You've definitely got options. I guess it depends on how bad you A/P is right now (benzos will give some immediate help, SSRIs take about 4 weeks and CBT/relaxation varies).

I reccamend you talk to your dr about this. Get you a piece of paper and write down all your question and take it to the dr and make sure he answers each and every one of them. All meds affect people diffrently so it's best you work close with your dr's till he has all your meds right for you. Also be sure you take all your meds from any dr with you so your doctors know exactly what all you are taking. Bless you and I hope your feeling better soon.
