back i here so many negatives. but has anyone taken it and liked it.  or taken it and came off it with minimal problems no "dicontinuation syndrome.??? im so confused is this like a poison

Hi there.  I am currently on Effexor XR.  I have been on it for the past 3-4 years - I was on 150 mg a day but when I became pregnant, I had to cut back to 75 mg.  I haven't really had any problems but when I cut back, I could feel a difference - it was minimal and nothing I couldn't handle.  If there are any specific questions you would like to ask, please feel free and I can try to answer them for you!  Good luck!

Thanks so much for getting back to me I should be yes should be starting tommorow but I'm just scared I'm going to go into some kind of a mania and lose control .... how was it when u started?

Hi JayMay,   Good luck for starting the effexor.  I take effexor myself (as you know) and take 225mg a day.  I had few side effects and the ones I did have went within 2 weeks and they weren't extremely bad at all. The effexor really has helped me greatly.   The effexor xr is a slow release dose and the slow release dose is suppose to have fewer side effects as it is released into the body over the course of the day.   Take care and good luck.  I know its easier said than done but try not to worry too much and try not to look for the side effects.

I was on Effexor XR and had great success with it! So much success that I'm not on it any longer :) I used in in combination with klonopin and CBT therapy. I felt a little funky when coming off of it, but not too bad. Good luck :)

as with all antidepressants, effexor will be a huge help, if it works for you and you will need to take it for 3 to 6 weeks to see whether it works or not, sadly theres no other way...... eyes

anxiety sufferers should, IMO, start with a low dose and gradually work up

a typical range is 75 to 300, so I would start at half a 75 tablet, or cut the tablet to give about 37, then work the dose up to that prescribed

a pillcutter from a pharmacy is useful

effexor is safe and has been in use a long time, any problems with it would have showed up by now

Its a SNRI type

Hi jaymay.  I have been on 75 mg of Effexor since November 2005.  It has given me my life back.  At the time I couldn't sleep even though I was on sleeping pills, had no energy, felt anxious all the time and couldn't function at all.  Now I have returned to part time work, I run two choirs, I sing in another two choirs and run a house (and a family!).

The only side effect I had at first was nausea but it really wasn't too bad and went away in two weeks.

I wish you all the luck in the world.  I want to stay on Effexor for the rest of my life!

Thanks Jan im so happy to know you have benefited from it . Hopefuly Ill be able to say the same thing im going to take the extended release caps do you take that or the tablets?

I apologize it has taken me so long to get back to you.  When I started the Effexor, the most bothersome symptom for me was sweating - at least until my body adjusted to the medication.  Other than that, I think this medication had the least side effects for me.  Good luck when you start it - or if you already have started it, I hope all is going well and some of your fears have been put to rest!!!
