A few months ago I started having some mild anxiety and stress. In the last couple of weeks it has turned into full blown panic attacks that are occuring pretty frequently (once every couple of days). At first they were only happening if I was somewhere I was uncomfortable. Now they are happening even when I'm somewhere familiar and with people I know. I've even gotten them around the new person I'm dating, somehow managing to not let him know (I feel like in this circumstance, my body isn't discerning between excitement and anxiety/panic)
I made an appt. with a psychiatrist through my insurance company only to find out they want to charge me $150 for the visit (which I cannot afford). I then made an appt with my GI doc (I have hep C), who is the only person I see regularly hoping he would be able to help me out. They can't get me in until the 18th. I will be miserable until then.
So I decided to make an appt for a primary care physician. I am having no other problems such as depression or illness. Will a PCP generally prescribe meds without my seeing a psychiatrist? I honestly feel there is mostly a physiological cause here. I have had them before in the past, but only one a year or so which I've read is normal. I've also been treated for depression over 7 or so years ago and know that Zoloft works well for me and can also be used to treat anxiety/panic.
Anyone else in a similar state? It's so irritating to know that when they happen it is for a completely irrational reason and to not be able to do anything about it. I need help.
