So, I've decided to take a yoga class at the local Y. I feel like it would really benefit my mental and physical health, and lately I've been so stiff and feeling out of shape (not to mention I feel like I'm gaining a few pounds from being on prednisone) and it's really starting to get to me.
I'm not motivated enough to keep up a routine at home, there's just too many distractions or I get discouraged and just stop doing it. But I know if I pay for the classes (you can buy a "punch card" and you pay for 10 classes at a time) I will definitely go because I will want to get my money's worth.
I'm so extremely nervous though. The new classes don't start for two weeks, and I want to go on the first day because I don't want to start like a week or two into it and have everyone already know each other and know what's going on and look at me like the weird outsider. But what if all the people in this class already took it last season so it will be like that anyway?
And I'm already dreading that whole situation where I walk into the building, have to ask someone where studio 2 is, then stand around awkwardly (because I'll have to be early, it's better than walking in after everyone's already there and not being able to get a spot or having to interrupt the beginning) and have no one to talk to and I'll just look weird and out of place.
And I have a stomach/intestinal disease that causes some discomfort when I'm moving around alot, and yoga's not really high energy stuff most of the time and last time I took a class (like two years ago) I was breaking a sweat and everyone around me barely even looked flushed and the whole time I was worried I'd have to stop in the middle and run to the bathroom and that would be so embarrassing.
I don't know... I haven't even paid for the classes yet and I'm really afraid I'll end up not going, but I think it would be good for me and I really want to do it, I love yoga. I just hope I can get the courage to go alone because I have no one to go with me.
.... Sorry this was so long...

Some will disagree but I think there's something to be said for "being kind to yourself". In other words, if you find that you have to absolutely force yourself to go, don't. On the other hand, if you genuinely want to go but have that "anxiety resistance", being kind to yourself would mean that you should allow yourself to go and enjoy the yoga.
Assuming they're pretty cheap, go ahead and buy the classes. Don't dwell on it. Keep yourself only vaguely aware of when the classes start. Think about
something else, and make your decision at the last minute. I don't know...hopefully that's good advice.

My Brother has PAs and lots of anxiety issues. Swears by Yoga. Keeps telling me to go. I have OCD. Told him my CBT is helping do the same.

sounds risky to me, severe panic attacks on the yoga mat can happen, I would choose some less risky activity such as low strain exercise, join a gym, go swimming, etc
