everyone reacts differently to antidepressant meds so asking how others went on one isnt helpful for you

some get severe early side effects others get little or no side effects

for some the med goes on to work after a few weeks but for others the med simply never works, not even at high doses

antidepressants can stop working after a few months sometimes

its not unusual to have to try 2 or 3 antidepressants to find 1 that works but you can be lucky first time

sadly the results of taking an antidepressant cant be predicted

Absolutely right - the only way to know is to try!  I would just add, however, that personally I found it very encouraging to hear of other people's positive experiences on particular medications.  Obviously that can work the other way too, but certainly the start up side effects of drugs such as SSRIs can be  common to all and it helps enormously to hear of similar situations where people have gone through it themselves.  In my opinion ,reassurance means much more from fellow sufferers than from those prescribing the medication!

i think that people are just reaching out for a little support during a really rough time and trying to figure out a little what to expect from there meds. even though most get the warnings from the pharmacy, it seems like 90% of all warnings are the same so it's nice to get a few first hand experiences. and a little support. we all know that we all react differently and one persons reations arent going to be ours but they might be. and thats all we're looking for. to know we're not alone.

I appreciate that but just because 1 person got severe early side effects and had to stop the med, doesnt mean that this will happen for the other person, the med might help them quickly with few early side effects
