Hi everyone,

I have a question that perhaps someone can assist me with?  I have been visiting the doctor(s) back and forth for months now to figure out the fluttering sensation that I have been feeling in my chest on and off for months now. Had tests done to rule out any heart problems. Tests came back normal.  My doctor has just prescribed me Paxil (10mg) to take and has told me to keep a log of when and how frequent the fluttering takes place if any after taking Paxil.  Then I am suppose to return to see her after finishing the pills to figure out whether in fact the fluttering sensation is due to anxiety before she sends me for more tests.  So, my question is has anyone been taking Paxil? Does it work? Does it have any major life-threatening side effects that I should know about before I take this drug? Your responses are greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much for listening.

There are a few on here that i have heard that do take this med and have had great results ........the weekends can sometimes be slower so i do hope that someone will pop on and give you all the answers you need....

like i said i have heard of good results with this me d it is an older type of med but most ppl are still swearing by it

10mg is only half the anxiety min dose, also at 20 it doesnt always work so I dont agree with docs ideas, I would ask for more tests to determine whether its anxiety or something else

I would have thought a valium type med better to test for anxiety, a mid range dose daily for about 2 weeks


Regarding your comment on dosing of meds, please post your source and your reasoning for disagreeing with the Doctors as many people take this medication and your comments are misleading.  What is your source for the "mid range comment" ?

I do not take Paxil but I know that we have members who use this medication with good results. As Lyn said, week ends can be slow but I am sure that you will hear from members.

In the spring of 2001 the United States Food and Drug Administration approved the drug Paxil for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder. (Reference, about.com:Paxil)

I was about to take Paxil a couple of months ago but chickened out. One of the reasons that I backed out was that I did not plan on being on it for a long time. I read on Wikipedia.com that... "Clear evidence has shown that paroxetine (Paxil) has the highest incidence rate and severity of SSRI discontinuation syndrome of any medication of its class."

This is not to scare you. Paxil works for many people. However, if you want to come off it, you really need to do it under the close supervision of a doctor. Everyone has to figure out which med is best for them. You can only determine this by trying it.
