Severe Vertigo

I was just wondering if any of you have ever experienced severe bouts of vertigo for no apparent reason? When I woke up this morning I felt fine, wasnt paticulary anxious, havent had any panic in awhile..and then out of nowhere around 1pm I just got this horrible horrible dizziness. It was so bad that all I could manage to do was crawl up the stairs and into my bed and lay there without moving. It was almost like when you drink too much and the room is spinning and you feel sick to your stomach and pray to god it will stop..cept I hadnt drank a thing. I fell asleep for a little while and when I woke up it was still there just not AS bad. I took a bath and prayed I could make it through school. Towards the end of school it finally went away completely. I just don't understand why it happened. I wasnt anxious at all, wasnt panicing ...nothing. Someone at school said maybe its the weather. I live in Arizona where it is really dry and really hot. We havent had a storm in months and months..and tonight a storm rolled in with a lot of lightening and rain. Someone told me that because we barely see any weather that the ions in the air get all messed up and give some people migraines or vertigo. Is this true? Has anyone heard of this? I just want to know if its important enough to make an appoinment with my Dr for tomorrow or If i can just wait for 2 weeks until my scheduled apointment. Any advice would be appreciated.

I guess I'd be more comfortable with you going to the doctor sooner than 2 weeks.  I doubt it's anything serious, probably something to do with your ears.  I've not had dizziness that bad with anxiety, but have when I've had an inner ear infection.  Not a big deal, but should be treated with an antibiotic, if that's what it is.  Whether it's anxiety or something with your ears, you'll feel better having an answer.

This is Kitt smile I have a couple of thoughts. I had this happen to me twice. Once I woke up with it and thought I had a brain tumor of course. Called physician and described it and she felt it was a middle ear problem. She had me take Antivert (Meclizine) and it did the trick. It did not return so I did not see the physician.
The second time was the worse, it was a reaction to Lunesta and I was at work when it hit.........whoa that was 24 hours of unable to even lift my head. At first I had to crawl to the bathroom. The physician had me take lots of the Meclizine and it finally started to improve. I now list Lunesta as a drug I cannot use.
I don't have any experience with the ion theory. I would think if it returns you should check in with your physician for a professional opinion.
Many things can cause vertigo, medications and allergies are two of the possibilities.

I've experienced it on a few rare ocassions. They were normally accompanied by ocular migraines, and the first time this happened was the only time anxiety was going to kill me. I literally thought I was only moments from death! But I was only moments from getting better.

It may not have been anxiety at all, though. It could've had something to do the ears or sinuses, as mentioned. I know allergies can touch off these occular migraines for me, and the phenomena seem to be related.

Like Kitt said, could be lots of things and it wouldn't hurt to have it checked out.

Thank you everyone :) Im gonna go ahead and call my dr just to be sure nothing is wrong. Nothing wrong with ruling out a brain tumor. lol Geesh I wonder if I'll ever stop having health anxiety. Ya'll are great thanks so much!

I tend to get vertigo as well.. It wasn't as bad as your case.. but it's starting to get pretty serious..
I got really today playing basketball at the park.. I had to sit down b/c I could not even look up..

VERTIGO sucks..

Are you sure you don't have anxiety or panic?

'I do get this on the rare occasion and have to sit for a bit as well or lay down til it passes
Mine I believe is attributed to loss of hearing ( total) in one ear and 60 % in other so my equilbrium is off to begin with ........
Not eating nor drinking enough water also makes me worse as does stress and a/p

Keep posting plz and let us know what the doc says will ya

Hi,

I am a newbie.....and have anxiety and vertigo too.....I had 2 attacks of vertigo ,first one in october and second one in January....I saw a specialist in ear deseases,and otoneurologist who diagnosed me with BPPV....an inner ear disorder....I remember the first time I woke up at AM with the room spinning in my head I had to call 911 and the 2nd time I had a mild attack....so after doing bunch of tests at the dr's office I found out that I had BPPV.You might want to google it to learn about it....and that vertigo made my anxiety 10 times worse......I am getting better tho...

Have you seen a dr for your vertigo yet?if not,it might be good to see one.....
