i have been taking paxil now for 10 days. i feel sleepy alot, does anyone else do this? it seems to be helping me sleep alittle better but with 2 toddlers it is hard to feel tired through the day. also i find myself still tring to go into panic attacks. my symptoms sre my ears stop up my hands and feet sweat, i feel hot all over. how long does it normally take paxil to lick in? i have been told anywhere from 6 days to 4-6 weeks by different pharmacist. i thought that paxil worked for me once quicker than this but i am not sure. any ideas? also can paxil help the what if thoughts that always linger in or is that something that has to be self helped?

According to my Pdoc, if you think an AD worked in 6 days that is good but it is in your mind as the meds will kick in sooner in some people but most people it does take 4-6 weeks and you should not just all of a sudden feel great.  You just realize you are starting to feel more normal and decrease in your symptoms.

I am sure some Paxil users will be along.

I have been on paxil for almost 9 years now. I was on 20mg for a long time and from what I can remember it took about 2 weeks for it to start working. It wasnt fun in the beginning as I did feel sleepy, nausious, very lightheaded and dizzy. It did help a great deal with my anxiety though but not with the What If feelings. I think that is self help and its so hard to try and get those thoughts out of your head. I always worry and think what if.... and it woudl be great if I didnt have to deal with that part of it but the meds didnt help with that at all. Please keep us posted on your progress

I just wanted to let you know I was on Paxil for about five years and in the begaining it was very hard to deal with the side effects but after a few weeks on it the side effects went away except the sweating part that stay with me up until i stop the Paxil and it probably took me a good three months on the med before I can say the med was working real well, so hang in there things will improve with you in time. Hi.  I am on 40mg of Paxil which I take each morning.  I find that it helps a great deal from panic attacks along with my other meds.  Yes, it can make some people drowsy at first.  It does take some time to really feel it "kick" when you take it.  The only side effect I find is that my dreams at night are "wild".

I hope this helps a bit.

Suebird...How did you wean off of paxil? I am in the process now as I have switched from paxil to celexa and I am having a very difficult time. I am feeling extremely nausious, dizzy, sweats, emotional.

Paxil worked in about 3 to 4 weeks for me, I took it for 5 yrs., Just try to stay positive, I believe that is the most important thing, I'm getting on lexapro now and staying positive and getting support is probably the best advice I have got.

Hi,

I haven't been on paxil for quite a year yet, but it has helped me a lot! I am on 75mg (I always seem to have to take the max dose of ADs for effect!). When I was first starting it, I felt really tired and sleepy. My pdoc siad to take it at night rather than in the morning and that helped a lot. The side effects should settle down before too long. If the paxil seems to help, try to be patient and stick with it until the side effects ebb away!

hi when i came off of the paxil the dr took me from 40 mgs of paxil and roll me right over to 150 mgs of zoloft and also added zyprexa i had a hard time when i had to make the switch. Its been about a little over 3 months and now im coming off of the zyprexa to see how well i can do just on the zoloft wish me well, Its been a hard road for me these last couple of months. Suebird
