pain under arm

Hi Mike,

I can't offer you too much information on the aches and pains, except to say that muscle aches and pains are fairly common with anxiety due to tension, fatigue, etc. I'm not sure about the numbness/tingling/underarm pain though...how long has that been going on? It's possible that you have something viral that's causing it, as underarm pain is often associated with swollen lymph nodes. If you continue to experience those symptoms I would suggest you see your GP, just to be sure.

I can tell you that many, many allergy medications send my anxiety through the roof. The culprits are often those allergy meds that are touted as "Non-Drowsy" or "Daytime" meds. Claritin Clear does it to me. I'm not sure what the ingredient in the meds is, but it makes me jittery, nervous, accelerates my heart rate and can trigger panic attacks. I normally don't have this problem with allergy medications that aren't specifically labeled "Non-Drowsy" or "Daytime", although on occasion even Benadryl will set me off. I talked to my doctor and was prescribed Allegra-D, which is a once daily med similar to Claritin, and it doesn't have the same awful effect on my nerves. One of the side effects is listed as POSSIBLE drowsiness, but it's nowhere near the same level of drowsiness as Benadryl, and I have never had a problem with it.

Considering that the amount of time you've been experiencing panic attacks seems to be related to the amount of time you've been on Claritin, you may want to talk to think about switching allergy meds just to see if that's the culprit.

As a side note, I get the same bad effect from "Non-Drowsy" and "Daytime" cold medicines, so you may want to watch out for those as well.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. I'm glad I came across this sight. It's nice to have people with similar problems to talk to. One thing I wanted to add about the underarm pain...I don't really notice it when I'm thinking about other stuff or if I'm occupied with other things. That's why I figured it might be anxiety related. Also, When I do notice it , it's accompanied by nervousness, tight band feeling around the head,tingling,light-headedness,etc...which again are all anxiety issues.(Wow! It's weird how I can rationalize it so easily,but when I'm feeling it ,it's so scary!) I guess that's the nature of anxiety.

You may want to read back through some of the past posts as I am sure you will find just about everything you can think of experienced by members dealing with anxiety.

When you clarified your underarm pain it does fit with the anxiety sx but as I said earlier, we can only share and your physician needs to make the call on what is physical versus caused by anxiety.

Thank you Nyliz ,Stkitt , & Anxietyridden for your imput. I appreciate it very much. I've been off of Claritin for about 3 days now, and my anxiety has eased up a little more each day. I don't know if it's just in my head that I'm feeling better, or if it's the Claritin leaving my system. Either way, at least I feel better. Lyn...I found an older thread on this sight about the underarm pain thing, but it was locked. It's also been several months since anyone has replied on it. It was a good chat though, because the ones replying had the same symptoms I do. How do I go about replying to an old thread like that ? Is it possible?

Frist question, if a thread is locked you cannot post on that particular thread anymore, it was locked by administration.

To change your email, look to the top at the dark blue  space that reads "Log Off and next to it you will see Control Panel.  That is your control panel.  Click on that and your info page will come up.  There is an edit choice, click that and you can edit your profile which is where your email address is located.

Glad you found some past threads that were helpful.
