it has been working fairly well for my litte anxiety i do have i take 1 in the morning 0.5mg and 2 in the evening,is there other meds i can take rather this i see my dr. friday a good chance to change a addicted pill if possible.

I am sure of you let the doc know it IS working for you then you will or could be left on it
I was on ( still prn) for over 20 plus yrs

let us know how you make out....

I have been on a benzo for 20 some years too.  If it is working and you have UC as well, I would think your Dr. would agree to let you continue on it.

I was on Ativan for quite a while an didn't become addicted.  I agree with Kitt and Lyn, tell your doctor what your concerns are and if the med is working for you make sure to tell the doc that as well.  Discuss what your options are and between the 2 of you, that way you can make a good informed decision about what you want to do.    Just a word of advice, make sure to write down all of your questions before your appointment so you don't forget anything you want to talk about .  I find this works the best for me.   Let us know how things go with your appointment.   Wen

Just my opinion. I withdrew from ativan and had the weirdest sensations and did it using valium. It was definitely doable. I do believe it is very addictive and have heard it increases your cellebellum(sp).
Personally I would never go back on it. What I read about it is scary. I would switch to valium. I think it's way easier to get off if you need or want to.

I originally started taking ativan when my anxiety and derealization started. My doc changed me to klonopin because it has a longer half life and possibly easier to discontinue in the future. Right now I take .5mg 3x a day, for me this is a good dose, it is much smoother than ativan, although they are both benzos, I do prefer klonopin. Terri

My doc (who has been known to be a moron) informed me that ativan is in the same family is valium.  I was prescribed ativan for insomnia and it works really well.  I wouldn't be too concerned about addiction on the dose you are on, but by all means check with your doctor if you have concerns (he probably know more than my doc - I think a hamster probably knows more than my doc).

Ativan, valium, klonopin, xanax are all in the same class of drugs called benzodiazepines. They all work on GABA receptors in the brain, the main difference with these different drugs is the half life, or the amount of time it takes for half the dose to leave your system. The shorter the half life the more addicting it can become. That is why some docs prefer one over the other for their patients, they are probably concerned with addiction possibilities. I am not trying tio sound like a know it all, but I am an RN and my husband is a physician, so I was just trying to give some insight. I am in the same boat as everyone here, I suffer from PTSD and anxiety, I do get some relief from Klonopin though. Terri

The only thing I have found with the Ativan vs Valium is Memory loss ..
I am experiencing severe memory ( short term ) loss and have been could not pin point it till I spoke with Doc about it
Now I an only taking Valium PRN
I think there are a coupl of others that have experienced this as well
