Severe adrenal deficiency with hypothyroidism!

Hi eveyone,

Sorry I've been scarce lately, but I wanted to let eveyone know whats been going on with me. I started seeing an Osteopathic Doctor a few weeks ago and told her about all of my
anxiety issues. She ordered up a number of blood tests and I got the results back today. Turns out I have severe adrenal deficiency and hypothyroidism, as well as undetectable levels of vitamin B6, B12 and magnesium. I was shocked about the low vitamin levels because I take supplements every day! She said that because of my Ulcerative Colitis my body is most likely not absorbing these things correctly which has led to the defiencies. I've also done some research and found out that some of the drugs I took a few years ago to get myself into remission from a Colitis flare up can cause adrenal problems (i.e. Cyclosporine, Imuran).

Over the winter my regular M.D. had run some of these same tests (minus the adrenal function test), including a Thyroid test, all of which came back slightly low but "still within the normal range" according to that Doc. My new Naturopathic Doc sent me to an independent laboratory and ran a different Thyroid test. She mentioned that the conventional Thyroid test is pretty inaccurate (I've heard that from alot of people).

Anyways, adrenal fatigue mixed with hypothyroid usually equals (big surprise here)...anxiety, depression and metabolic imbalances. Exactly the things I've been dealing with for the past few years. Tomorrow I will start taking natural thyroid and adrenal supplements. She's also going to start me on intravenous nutrition therapy. I'm excited about finding all of this out and just hope that the treatment works. She is totally confident that my anxiety issues are caused by these imbalances. We'll see. I'll keep everyone posted.

Out of curiousity, how many of you have had your adrenals and thyroids checked?

I am so glad that you found out what was wrong (I hope that didn't come out the wrong way!) what I mean, is that it is a relief to know it's not all "in you head"and that there is a vlid reason for feeling the way you do. Hopefully once your imbalances are under control you will get some relief from these symptoms. I had my thyroid checked and it was normal. I have a friend who had hyperthyroidism and she was like a changed person once she got it under control. I hope the same thing happens for you. Keep us posted.
