Morning Family, I thought I would ask a question to give us a better idea of how our AP treats us- it is not a competition, it is a simple question:

"At what age did you get AP and how long have you lived with it?"

 

I got AP at age 10. Im turning 29 soon, so nearly 19yrs i have had this 'thing', this sickness that is so mean to us!

I've probably had low grade anxiety since I was a child.  I remember feeling the same feeling when my father was drunk and/or my parents would fight and/or my mother was in a manic or depressed state.  But I began feeling this way 24/7 with or without a reason to be anxious in about Feb 07, when I was 52.

I am like Georgie, I most likely had anxiety since I was a child .

As my core values and bleieves were set when I was young I was taught to believe that I was dumb, fat and just in the way so I felt anxious at school or any time I had to perform.

I had my first Panic Attack 26 years ago and that was when I was dx by a physician and went to therapy for the first time.

Good Morning,

I had my first panic attack when I was 5 years old, but I was always a "sensitive" child so my anxiety, I believe has been with me since birth.

I really learnt to fight panic when I was in my late 20's (yeah - slow learner!!) and my quality of life has improved drastically since I stopped seeing myself as a victim and realised I was a survivor!

Well... I think I first started having anxiety attacks when I was five... being young, I didn't understand what was happening to me... so... I often thought I was going to have a heart attack because the way my chest would hurt...

I would wake up late in the night and go to my grandmother and tell her that my chest was hurting... And she'd yell at me to go to bed... //@.@\\'... (Very comforting... :P)... Eventually when I was old enough to know that I should ask my doctor about stuff (think around maybe 10 or so), I was told I was having anxiety attacks...

I also had frequent nightmares as a child... Every day, in fact (often recurring nightmares, such as I had one where I was being chased and killed by dolls, chased and killed by some unknown stranger, tortured with a safety pin being pushed through my chest, falling for eternity, etc.)... I was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder at one time... But I think... I've outgrown it? Just saying because I don't have as many nightmares (once or twice a year, if that)... Also, I've noticed that my anxiety attacks have pretty much disappeared, too. Last year, I had a few while I wasn't feeling well and was extremely depressed...

But other than that.... for the past few years before that, I hadn't had any anxiety attacks....

Hello My Family :)

Wow. . . We are all so much alike at times that it is a tad freaky. . . Just goes to show that many have the same problems across the globe.

I have also had anxiety with nightmares as a young child after losing my mother and brother (approx. 30 years?)  Then more came with my father and second mother as alcoholics that depended on me to take care of everything including helping raise my other brother and sister. Then the drunken verbal/physical abuse along with other family members deaths just sent me over the edge with my longing for security, comfort and a mental understanding of the scary adult world through a confused child's eyes. . . I'm so glad that I have found solace from so much of this through God and great friends like all of you :) Not enough adjectives in the world to describe the beauty of these blessings that I hold close to my heart.

I'm so sorry that my beloved family here is suffering from these kind of deep issues as well. Gentle hugs and peace for everybody's inner child :)

Had my first panic attack in mid twenties. So, I've had the A/P for a little over twenty years. It's been a struggle. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Well, maybe I would.

I have always been a touchy emotional child but my first real panick attack was in my early 20's Just on and off occassionally. towards my mid to late 20's it has gottten more serious with many trips to the hospital and days off work. Now I am 32 and I have them reguliarly and much more severe.

I was always panicky but I clearly remember the first panic attack at age 8 at a baseball game.  Some of you know the story.

So I have had it for.... doing math... 15 years?

I think that's right.  almost 23 so.... yeah that's right

btw- 15 years of CRAP! and meds and lack of sleep, etc. ARGH it's so retarded that there is no cure!

Hi All

I have had anxiety for as long as i can remember since about 5/6 years old and I also got and still do get terrible nightmares. So that makes 28yrs with anxiety.

I guess I am the odd ball of the group. I developed my anxiety in the past two years or so, and I am 51. Maybe I had it longer and never realized what it was, but definetly know I fully recognized it two years ago.

I was always a very anxious child, but of course didn't know what it was at the time.  I had a major period of a/p when I was about 10, parents were fighting constantly, another one in my teens and developed school phobia for a time.  Then it was fairly quiet until my early 20's when I had a few blowout panic attacks, but I could still live "normally".  After my daughter was born 19 years ago, a/p took over my life.  It became a daily struggle with constant anxiety, panic attacks and agoraphobia.  So, basically about 38 years that anxiety has been there in mild form for the most part, but 19 years that it has really affected me daily.

The earliest I can remember as having real panick was at the age of 6 when my intoxicated father began beating on my mother... and tried to drown my sister who was having her bath... she was about 9 months old... so I wrapped her up in a huge bathtowel...grabbed my little brother ( 3 ) by the hand and escaped... my mother found us at 11:30 that night still walking the streets afraid to come home.... so I have been battling panic, PTSD, depression, general anxiety for the last 45 years.

My children keep me bound to this life.... otherwise I think I may have succumbed to it all years ago... they are my saving grace!

looking back over my childhood, i am pretty sure i had anxiety issues for most of my life. as a kid, though, my anxiety came out as being super responsible all the time (i was a mini control freak!). i didn't have my first full blown panic attack until i was about 22, though, so i guess officially i've had a/p on and off for almost 14 years, though probably more for almost 36 years!

Probably around 8 years old or so. It's amazing how young I was, when I started worrying excessively and having anxiety about my health. At 10 I thought I had a heart problem (heart burn) and had my Mom take me to the doctor. I've suffered from it ever since. Only now have I gotten help, after suffering for 23 years with it. Along time to suffer.

I think I've always had some form of anxiety (always a very emotional child and overly sensitive and withdrawn a lot as a kid but a wonderfully happy childhood).  I think just over the last couple of years is when it finally hit me that it was more than just emotions but true anxiety and finally got a diagnosis.  So, I'd say I've had anxiety for probably 3-4 years now.
