Now this is new and real! Please help I have a lump!

I have a lump thats really tender like on the inside of my left leg.  Its right at the top near my private (sorry!).  Its just really deep and really tender!  Its not just on top of the skin bc when I touch it and try to move it around it wont budge! 

I first noticed it bc the back of my leg felt strange and kinda sore.  Like the skin half way down my leg feels strange and sore.  Then I found this really tender lump and I have no idea what it is!  I've had bug bites before and nothing felt like this!  Its not a lympnode bc I have had those before and thats a lot different of a feeling! 

I know I probably need to go to the doc about this.  Its just that I dont know when he'd be able to see me!  I usually call and they give me an apt for like a week later!  I'm really freaking out!  I dont know what this is and its scareing me so much!  I wont last this way long!  I cant get this out of my head bc I have health anxiety and I just cant get it off my mind for a minute!  Its midnight and I'm wide awake bc of this and my daughter is asleep and I need to be asleep!  I'm going to feel so nervous without sleep tomorrow!  Oh my goodness!

What does this sound like?

Hi Jen, I can't really help you with the lump but it does sound uncomfortable. Are you able to take something to help you sleep? I do warm milk and honey and that can help. As you know with anxiety, it will think the worst but it won't likely happen. Can you get the lump checked soon? You will be ok, hang in there x

Hi Jen, I had something similar to that once...and it turned out to be some kind of sebaceous cyst, like a clogged pore, basically, and it was in that same region. The doc thought it may have started as an ingrown hair, from shaving for bathing suit season. I think people do have more sweat glands and perspiration/clogged pore issues in certain areas (the groin being one of them...and some of us have unwanted stray hairs that grow at the top/inside of the leg area), so my unprofessional opinion or guess is that this might be the problem. If you are really concerned, maybe you should go into emerg tomorrow to be sure. I hope you get this resolved soon! ((hugs))

I was thinking it's a cyst in your lymph node. I've had those and they can be painful. But you don't think so. I doubt it's something serious, but it does hurt. Mention it to the doctor tomorrow and how concerned you are about it. Hopefully they can get you in soon to relieve your anxiety.

In the meantime, see if you can take some Motrin. That has the anti-inflammatory medicine in it. It may help. Also, a warm wash cloth might be good.

Let us know what you find out and try not to panic!!

I agree with Raniah, it sounds like a ganglion cyst. Harmful, but can be painful. You should try to take baths as hot as you can stand, so that you can get it to head. Do this a 3-4 times a day and once it gets to a head, you can pop it and the pressure will be released. I do not think this is something you need to go to the ER for. Maybe check into a urgent appointment clinic if anything. But I would leave the ER for life threatening things, and I don't think this classifies as life threatening. Good luck!

Hey Jen,

I am not sure what your lump is but you have received some great advice.  I would suggest that you follow Nanner's suggestion to be seen at an Urgent Care Clinic. 

Urgent Care offers convenient walk-in medical clinics with providers who are available during specific hours to treat any non-life-threatening illness or injury that needs immediate attention.

I hope you have this service available in your area.  It will allow you to get your  medical screening exam and you will not have to wait for a clinic appointment.  :)

You've got great advice about the lump, so I thought I'd chime in about the health anxiety.

I get exactly like you feel when something unusual seems to be going on. I'll get frantic, feeling that I MUST see a doctor immediately, and unable to deal with possible waiting. It just feels like I'll go crazy from fear, or have to hide in bed until the appointment (not good to miss work), just in general that I CANNOT stand to wait.

Sometimes I can get a little control by talking with my husband or friends for consolation. Other times, a nap or good night's sleep (with help from Tylenol PM) makes me feel less freaked out the next day. None of these are sure-fire things for me; I basically just try anything that seems like it will help me to hang on a little bit longer. Just telling myself that it's not acting life-threatening is a help if the physical trigger isn't too bad. Distractions help, not so much in a big way, but that they decrease my baseline anxiety some, so that I'm not quite so near the edge from the extra HA.

Good luck to you. I hope you can find a way to hang on until you have answers.

It can also be a pulled/ torn muscle. They to will lump and be sore to the touch, and of course painful. You didn't mention how big it was. So if it is not to big then this would most likely not be it. As when you pull a muscle the size of the lump is normally about golf ball size. Some times smaller about 1 1/2 inches.

In grown hair. Is probably it. I've had those in the same area. And boy can they be more on the painful side because of location. Simple rubbing from pants, undies etc irritate it. Just like Nanners said Hot water!
For me I would use a hot wash cloth. (I can't sit still long enough for a bath)

If they doc is concerned they will get you in right away. If it isn't anything to be concerned about they will put you in under a normal appt.

Ok it was a cyst! I'm going to live after all! Whew! I did go to the hospital. Only bc the ask a nurse woman said she thought I should. She said it sounded "ify", then she said, "If it is a clot, we dont want you mashing on it". You know I freaked out then! I went to the ER and I was so frantic I threw up twice! I couldnt stop paceing (pacing?) in the waiting room! I was level 10 panic!

After an hour of that the nurse saw me and said he didnt think it was a clot. Then the doc came right in and checked and said it was a cyst. I have to put a warm rag on it several times a day. I'm so happy its nothing serious!
