My doctor is phoning in a prescription for Effexor today. I was on this in the past and it seemed to help me in the long run. I cannot remember how quickly it started to work. Is anyone here taking Effexor and how quickly did you notice a positive change. I do remember the first week or 2 having insomnia as a side effect, but heck, I have that now!

Generally these meds take at least 4-6 weeks to take full affect.

Thanks Nanners! I'm hoping it will at least begin to level me out pretty quickly. Sigh!

Hi

I take 225mg of Effexor, As Nanners says it takes upto six weeks before you may see any positive affects so you do need to give it time to get into your system. I have yet to find an AD that works for me but we are all different and what works for one may not work for an other. I hope you have good results with this medication.

I'm battling with my insurance company right now about authorizing this med. UGH! Why must everything be a hurdle to jump over? I took Effexor before and it was successful. I don't want to try a generic form. My doc prescribed Effexor XR and the insurance wants me to take generic Effexor first. NO!!! I'm beginning to grow a big set these days. LOL!

Sorry for my outburst there... I'm super frustrated right now! I'm going to pay out of pocket for the first week's supply of the Effexor XR at 37.5 mg, once daily. Hopefully by the time I increase to the 75 mg all of the red tape BS will be over and insurance will cover it.

I refused to wait another day to begin this treatment. One week has been hard enough!!! Hopefully the Effexor will kick in pretty quickly, at least to take the edge off!
