Thoughts on Elavil?

Hi,

My husband is currently taking Seraquil and Xanax. He takes the Seraquil at night for sleep and Xanax in the AM for anxiety. I would like to see him take something else for his anxiety and have heard that others use Elavil for both sleep and their anxiety. Do any of you have any experience with Elavil and what are your opinions of it? Do you think it would work for sleep as well and to control his anxiety during the day? I read that one of the side effects is insomnia so that is confusing.

Hey there,

Elavil and Nortriptyline are tricyclic antidepressant. I took Elavil and it caused me to have runs of rapid heart rates so I was switched to Nortriptyline. I actually did the best on this medication. How ever after many years is just pooped out on me.

The SSRI meds are in vogue now so I am sure a Doctor would prescribe one of these meds that work better. Some work well at bedtime and others in the morning so you would have to talk with a Doctor on which meds work best at what time of day.
