I know my smoking has some effect on my anxiety. My anxiety was much better when I had quit for 3 months. Moron me went back to work and of course hung out with the smokers and felt left out and started smoking again.

Anyway I have been smoking for 13 years now. And am looking to become a non smoker again. Smoking has helped me in a pinch when anxiety does come about and calms me as the doc says. In other times it has caused me anxiety.

But I want to quit. I have found a product I am very interested in. Called an E cigarette. Was wondering if anyone here has tried them and noticed if they cause more anxiety or less or no difference at all.
I have done a ton of research on them. I can "vape" all I want. No harmful second hand smoke, no smell, no stinky cloths, hair etc. They sound perfect for what I need to help me stop smoking. They are not marketed at a stop smoking aid. But I think I will no longer smoke with this product.

Some helpful input would be nice if anyone has tried them. I'm very nervous about it. My mom bought one and loves it. But she does not have anxiety like we do =). I always worry..

I have ordered my e-cig. And it should be here next week.

Hi Cary-Ann,

I tried a similar sounding product down here in Australia back when I was trying to kick the habit. I personally didnt find it too helpful and after all methods I tried, I ended up going cold turkey and thats how I quit. It was hard but it was worth it. We have a new tablet on the market down here called 'Champex'. You take that and decrease your ciggies and the pills make the cigarettes taste FOUL and put you off smoking them at all. A few long term smoker friends of mine have recently quit using this method.

Whatever happens, we support you and encourage you- its sooo easy to smoke, I know- but you have made the right decision.

Hey Cary-Ann,

I quit smoking nearly 10 years ago after smoking 29 years. I didn't use anything either, just went cold turkey one day. Hardest thing I ever did! I agree that the smoking can really be a crutch in those anxious times. Anytime I was mad, sad, anxious or whatever, that was the first thing I grabbed.

I have no experience with the Ecig, but it sounds interesting. Just know that your HW family will be here rooting you on.

There is a wonderful product that worked for me and it consists of many herbs. It's called the Smoke Away program and you can buy it at some leading grocery stores in the Pharmacy area or go on line and google Smoke Away. I had virtually no withdrawals at all. Two weeks before you start the herbs write 15 reasons why you want to quit smoking and place the sticky up on the mirrors in your bathroom or any room that you enter into daily.

I can't take pills. I even have the lozenges but can't bring myself to use them.

Reason: The patch. I literally burned from the patch. My skin had 1st and 2nd degree burns from the patch. What ever they used in it caused me some major discomfort. I would put the patch on and sit in pain for 2 hours waiting for it to stop hurting. Many of nights crying. Good thing. They do work. My hubby hasn't smoked in 5 years! They worked for him. Just hurt me.

Pills to many side effects. Doc tried me on Wellbutrin for anxiety and to help me stop smoking. Bad bad side effects. So I just don't take pills anymore. (that one is one of many).

So this e- cig seems to be my best route. My mom is enjoying hers. Though she keeps trying to put it out..lol. Will see how it goes. I'm excited about them. And have done even more research since I posted. And everything seems just fine!

But thanks for the advice and support it helps a lot knowing people understand!

Well got my e-cig last night. Charged it and am now vaping instead of smoking. And wow it works. At least for me. Started using it this morning and have not had a cigarette today. I'm was skeptical about them. Who wouldn't be.

But I had to try. 2 packs a day for 10 years. And in one day I've went to zero packs. No withdrawls. The only thing I've had a problem dealing with is the normal action of smoking.
Reaching for the lighter, pack, and thinking about it burning out or the need to finish it.. Not sure if I quite explained that right. But I think the smokers would understand.

Anxiety is a little high. Waiting for the 'normal' side effects.. LOl nothing ever works right for me so I'm waiting for something to go wrong. But nothing has.
I am over all excited. This product for me has done just what they said it would. Now it is NOT marketed as a stop smoking aid. Because if it was then it would need FDA approval. Which the fda will not approve this product any time soon because Big tobacco and big phrama have no control over it. Maybe in the years to come we shall see.

But so far I'm a happy camper.. And day one of no smoking!!

Oh Congrats! Thats great news. Im so glad its helping you so well. Keep it up, you sound like you have a hugely positive attitude which is half the battle when quitting.

So proud of you, as an ex smoker, I understand what an achievement this is!

Proud of you!  I don't think it matters how you quit, just that you do when you make up your mind.  Remind yourself everyday "I am a non-smoker!"  and reap the healthful benefits!
