Please, if anyone has experienced this, let me know. I have been trying to find an answer to this problem for many years. I went to the doctor at a sleep disorder clinic yesterday and after he got finished grinning and rolling his eyes at me, he suggested I need a psychiatrist. That may be the case, but I'd like to have a slightly more intelligent reaction before proceeding.
Here's what happens: I'll have a perfectly normal day, normal work routine, etc, and go to bed around 10 pm. I'll fall asleep without any problem. Then, I'll awaken about 30 to 60 minutes later (never any longer than that), feeling horrifically nauseated. I won't actually vomit, but I'll feel like it. It's very intense and lasts for about 10-15 minutes and then goes away. I'll usually fall back asleep within a few minutes and it won't happen again. I'll wake up in the morning feeling tired as if the rest of my sleep has been restless.
I've heard of other people having problems with nausea upon awakening, but the thing about my situation is the consistent pattern: it's always within that short time period after falling asleep. Sometimes it can go on for several months at a time, and then it'll let up for a while. It's driving me crazy because now I'm getting really anxious about going to bed at night.
I recently had a full physical exam, including colonscopy, and everything came back fine.
Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks very much for this forum.
