Hi LondonRed, its me Gail*Nanners* from the Crohns forum. I too get stress triggers much like you do. If I am worrying about travelling somewhere, or getting sick and ruining a good time for my husband etc etc etc. I will get those IBS like attacks that make me extremely nauseaous and having diarrhea. I found that the only thing that worked for me was seeing a therapist and the occasional use of Xanax. Thru doing those two things, I now am better able to control it and stop it before it gets too bad. I also use Librax if I find myself getting alot of diarrhea from stress and that will help to slow the poops down and also has a mild relaxant in it to calm my spirits. Now I can recognize when the anxiety is ramping up, and when I feel it starting I will quickly take the Xanax and lay down for a few and I am able to stop it.
Can I do it without drugs? Honestly I have not been successful without the meds. But I only use them about 1-3 times a month now. Hope that helps.
Hugs
Gail*Nanners*
