For many years I ran community based anxiety support groups. As my life and family responsibilities grew I no longer had the time to run the groups. As a result I have decompensated from being 100% recovered back to symptoms several times.
I know that once you have learned an anxiety state it can come back if you are not vigilant in doing the recovery work. Face-to-Face support groups work miracles as we support each other in our anxiety recovery work, have people to communicate with that know how we feel and a supportive connection in times of crisis.
There is a small group of "Anxiety Veterans" that are building a on-line/telephone anxiety support group and it is working wonderfully. We are growing in so many new ways and many are back in recovery.
Since we have been at this anxiety challenge for a number of years we have done the therapy, drugs and all the standard treatments. All of us have recovered back to total health and then let our work stop and gone backwards into symptoms.
We have come to understand that no drug heals anxiety and in many cases makes it worse over time. We also know that knowing our disorder and the recovery work is critical but what is most critical is DOING IT!! We also know recovery is an inside job and we have to do it - no one else can.
We are looking for a few other anxiety friends in our group. People who are working a cognitive program, diet, exercise, skilled relaxation, spiritual centering and personal growth/exploration...all the things we need to do personally for recovery.
We are unable to help "Newbies" since that takes us away from our own work - if you a seasoned anxiety person and want to share what works and have fellow travelers on this journey contact us at:
Give us a bit of your story and we will be in touch.
