i have been having anxiety attacks for the past few weeks. i get irrational thoughts about dying and losing my family and loved ones and being alone. i work as a nurse recently qualified. i went to my gp and she gave me beta blockers which have helped calm me down but i still have niggling thoughts at the back of my mind. my gp thinks its stress from work that has caused it. i feel like im going crazy and i have thoughts that are like whats the point in doing this when im just going to die? i really just want to feel normal again and like there is a point?

has anyone got any advice/help please?

It's possible for the fear of death to actually be healthy. When we fear dying, we are more careful and take appropriate precautions like wearing seat belts and bike helmets. A healthy fear of death also reminds us to make the most of our time here and not to take our relationships for granted. It can push us to work hard to leave a lasting legacy and to stay current with those we love.



I do feel like your starting a new job in health care where you are going to be exposed to death as a nurse may have triggered your anxiety and your fears of death. As a new nurse it can be very frightening to watch what patients and families go through when someone dies. I think perhaps you are worrying that this may happen to you as you watch it unfold in others lives.



If you continue to have anxiety I would like to suggest that you look at therapy as a way of learning how to deal with your fears of dying.

my gp thinks thats the case aswell she thinks im completly stressed out from my job and that has triggered the anxiety attacks. she has reffered me to counselling but there is a waiting list. i just want to feel better again, and dont no how to get rid of these horrible thoughts.

If the person is suffering from anxiety then he is usually being caused by the brain. It is the person itself who can come up with this problem as there are some drugs which can help you get out of this situation.
