Seroquel and dissociative disorder

Hi again,

Looks like my dissociative order isn't very popula/common- no many replies to my thread.  I was just wondering whether anyone else out there has been diagnosed with dissociative disorder.  I have been prescribed seroquel but after reading a lot of forums have decided against it.  Unfortunately my condition is worsening due to stress at work and I am at my tether now trying hard to cope.  With my condition I am very reactive to medication so have a fear of taking it because of that too.  I am on the waiting list for psychotherapy (years waiting list).  I have spoken to the docs about my fear of taking this med but they just say if you not going to take our advice how are we to try and get you better.  Have tried hypnotheray privately all to no avail.  Fingers crossed there is someone else out there with my condition - just to talk to..

Sorry to hear that you are suffering and not getting the help that you need. I wonder if if you have read anything about hyperventalation. The symptoms that you described really reminded me about an article I read after experiencing the same things. I was amazed that something as simple as improper breathing could cause so much havoc in the body! When stressed, we tend to over breathe which then changes the chemistry of our blood. The over oxygenated blood is then pumped to all parts of the body causing a myriad of problems and symptoms-many of which you mentioned. Maybe if you can learn and practice some proper breathing techniques you will find some relief from the disassociative disorder. I know it sounds ridiculously simple, but it helped me. I still occasionally get dizzy, and sure enough if I "check" my breathing I find that it is rapid and shallow. I can then focus on breathing correctly and feel better. It does take some practice, but look into it and give it a try if you want-it can't hurt:)

Just realized that I wasn't clear enough in my post. The breathing techniques will help w/ the A/P, but I don't know much about disassociative disorder-sorry if this was misleading:( Best of luck
