Effexor XR and Wellbutrin Combo?

First off, I want to apologize if this is a repost.  I looked through the threads and most were at least 2 years old and wanted to talk to people who are still on here, not sure if the others who had posted still post.

I am feeling anxious and getting depressed again and my Dr. wants me to add 100mg of Wellbutrin to my already 150mg Effexor XR. 

I am also nervous starting a new medication and hearing if someone is on the combo, whether it is/was a good/bad experience, I would love to hear from you, to calm my nervousness!  haha

I hope everyone is doing well, as I have not posted lately as well...I look forward to hearing back from someone!!

I took the two at the same time together and didn't have any problem. I hope that it works for you. You will notice with the wellbutrin, you will have more energy and think more clearly. You may lose weight on wellbutrin though. Some people do.

Hey there,  I took Wellbutrin with Buspar and it might have worked for me but the side effects did me in.  However, I was anxious about the side effects and if I would have gone the distance it may have helped.  Now I take Effexor 150mg but my Pdoc said I could go as high as 300mg if we had too........so far I am holding at the  150mg dose.

hello, how are ya, wellbutrin XL or no XL is "bupropion" which is a stimulant drug related to diethylpropion the brand name i think is TENUATE. diethylpropion was and maybe still used as a diet pill in the 70's and 80's. bupropion has the same actions in tnat it is considered a NDRI- noradernergic-dopamine reuptake inhibitor. it is keeping more stimulating neurotransmiters around your nerve receptors thus making you anxious. EFFEXOR besides it's serotoninergic effects is a norepineperine [noradrenergic] reuptake inhibitor possible also making you anxious. i have had a acouple yaers pharmacology colloedge but still do not have a APD so don't take my word for any of this [but most is correct] check with your perscribing physician first. If you are depressed with a nervousness and anxiety component. it seems this cocktail may? make you worse. possibly a anti-depressant like citalopram or escitalopram/ [celexa and lexapro] may be more indicated and something like LYRICA [pregabilin] for generalized anxiety disorder alone or with some Ativan or Xanax for anxiety attacks. don't take this as gospel truth but run it by your Doc. and ask why he's using stimulating meds. best wishes to you.
