I am 34..I've been experincing anxiety...seems like panic attacks.

Its so uncomfortable...one night i experience a episode.A couple of hrs before...i was hot, tired..getting anxious, and heart palpiations.I was having one...it was like everything in my body was tingling, shallow breathing, thinking the worst....and i actually thought i was gonna pass out.it felt like i wanted to run out the door....i was trying to relaxing myself.....and it started t decrease after 20minutes. I've experienced a tooth abcess...and my ears were so sore...doctor said..i had no infection...and he mentioned my abcess was probly putting pressure on the inner ear.I've been experiencing balance problems, and panic? could inner ear problems cause anxiety?

I don't know that ear problems can lead to anxiety (then again I'm not a doctor), but I believe they can lead to balance issues and dizziness which in turn could remind you of the panic attacks you've already had. In turn that association could bring on more anxiety (e.g. thinking another attack is coming).

What you've described certainly sounds like a panic attack. Everyone experiences them differently though there are some similarities and some symptoms are more common than others. But the shallow breathing, heart palpitations, thinking worst case scenario, fearing that something is seriously wrong with your body, tingling sensations, wanting to run or escape even though there's nowhere to go are all common enough symptoms.

It's always a good idea if you haven't already to have a physician check you out to rule out any medical causes, which may include bloodwork to check things like your thyroid. Did you talk to your doctor about the anxiety? If/when you're medically cleared then you can always look into counseling and/or medication. Medication can help with the panic attacks and anxiety to decrease your symptoms, while counseling can help examine the root causes of the anxiety and panic. Most people use a form of counseling called cognitive-behavioral therapy which if you're on this forum for any amount of time I'm sure you'll hear plenty about.

Welcome to HealingWell.  I am glad you have found us and hope you will find the forum to be supportive and helpful.

Chronic dizziness very commonly goes hand-in-hand with anxiety. The reason is that the vestibular (inner-ear balance) system is "wired into" the autonomic nervous system, which controls the fight-or-flight response, which is related to anxiety.

 

I have had inner ear problems and actually had a Eustachian tube
placed when I was in my late 30's.  I feel anytime you have an acute or chronic illness anxiety tends to spike as you try to deal with the physical symptoms.

 

Perhaps a ENT physician would be able to help you out with your ear problems.

 

Wondering if you have the tooth abcess now and if you were taking any pain medications for this abcess ?  Pain meds can also cause dizziness.

hi there..and thanks very much for the replies.

I seen a ent specialist and i was fine...then again, i had a baby in march 2010....i've had my regular checkups, and am fine. My abcess was taken care of with antibiotics...thank god.

I will just learn to relax....and wait patiently until i see the dentist.

I found a good book from Chapters..."Anxiety free"..so i will read that...and relax.

i had ear problems in the past too..like 5 yrs ago....the doctor said its caused by a viral..and it will pass.. idea

I am almost use to the feeling, lol.But if i think positive, and relax...and remain functional..i will be fine.

I appreciate responses...and this page is helpful and supportive.
