A Visit to the Psychiatrist

Hi,

I know that a psyhiatrists are basically there to just prescribe meds

but has anyone noticed the indifference in their attitude? After a

particulary annoying business appt. I went to see my Psch. who

prescribes my xanax that helps me sleep. Now as I said they do

not provide therapy but after 6-7 visits he seems like he still does

not remember my backround, which I find unprofessional. In fact

when he was looking at his notes I told him " just give me the Rx

and move on to the next".

I am fortunate to have a great psychiatrist who reviews each patient's record right before she sees them. She laughs as I almost always have an agenda and she tells me I am very organized. She also tells me I am a wee bit stubborn. Me ???

She does do some counseling during the 20 minute appointment.

I hope you have better luck with you psychiatrist.

Sorry that you have not felt professionally treated by your psychiatrist. I like Kitt have had very good dealing with my psychiatrist and he and I have developed a good relationship which is built on trust and he has been very supportive.

I've had both...the Psychiatrist I just left rubbed me the wrong way from day 1 when I met her in a Partial Hospitilization Program and after asking me about a very important "event" got up in the middle of my telling her, said she had to go and walked out. Then back in March when I had a miscarriage I had literally come from finding that out directly to her office & was still in tears. Her receptionist & PA ushered me into a private room to wait in & checked on me every few minutes, then I got into her office and she just stared at me as I cried and the only thing she said was "So, do you want to change your meds back or leave them the same?" Now that I am pregnant again I've decided to find a new doc who I feel like I can trust during this critical time. They aren't all bad I swear...leep looking until you find one that works for you., don't settle for someone you aren't comforitable with.

Thanks for your support and input. Like other professional services

- there are good and not - so- good practicioners. Unfortunately,the

3 I've seen I have not jived with. The second started dozing off after

a few minutes and this one seems to care little or even try to look

like he is making an effort. I'm at a point where I dont want to put

up with this but I will go because the meds are helpful. What is ironic

is that the Drs can be like this in this profession. Are they jaded, is it

just about the money?
