I was blown away by this revelation and you may not be religious but to me it gave even further proof of the existence of God and the teachings of Jesus, but get this every time your under chronic stress for a length of time the ends of your DNA shorten and leave you more prone to poor health and shorter life, but the way to reverse this cycle and get your health back is simply being loving and compassionate

I saw a documentary last night on my xbox live netflix (which I got all this from) called Naitonal Geographic: Stress - Portrait of a Killer , and a study on a tribe of baboons was done to measure effects on the body from stess and yada yada, well this tribe of baboons encountered an abandoned shack with food from long ago thrown out, food that was riddled with diseases and bacteria but the baboons being unaware of all this ate the food anyways, a good chunk of them died but some survived

what they found out that the ones that died were "Alpha" males so to speak, the mean aggressive kind that get what they want all the time and pure selfishness from head to toe, but the ones that survived were the good guys who were kind submissive and very outgoing and humble

interesting huh? what makes it more interesting is last night I was going through a rough time with Anxiety and I cried out to God for relief then I came upon this revelation so I thought I'd share it with you guys

the way to combat what stress has done to you is to do nice things and laugh often:)

Interesting study 3-D. I had not heard of this particular one, though it has been documented that happy people are those who realize and count their blessings.

I once read a book called 'What Happy People Know' with the premise being that even people who are facing debilitating life circumstances can be happy when they are practicing gratitude. An extension of gratitude is giving of oneself to other's well being.

So it is good to see both of these ideas meshing (the documentary you viewed and the book I read.)  Thanks for sharing, and here's to living a purposeful life full of compassion, gratitute and love!:)

oh no I'm not trying to preach to anyone lol i respect everyone's beliefs I just found this whole thing interesting and had to share, thought it would be of use to others

to me it was interesting because I could physically feel the toll stress has on me, like seriously the headaches the chest pains the IBS nausea uneasiness all that, and I was thinking to myself at this rate I don't think I can live to my 70s-90s or so, so I was curious as to how to undo everything stress is doing to me and to my surprise it's just being a loving and compassionate person

Also I used to be one of those guys that would pick fights and what not, I got into a few fist fights in my time and I was a boxer and hardcore into that sport, but the truth of the matter is everywhere I'd go a part of me always wanted to pick a fight with someone for just looking at me for too long or the wrong way, I guess I was just an emotional person and look where it ended me up

So yea guys I'm not preaching but I think I'm finally finding my wings here and understanding it's just not worth it, anxiety is something I created myself and I can change that just by holding the door for an elderly person or smiling and waving to strangers once in a while

sharing something here, I went to church today and I had all these aches and pains, but while I was there I found myself changing my attitude to a positive optimistic and outgoing one, and behold my symptoms almost all went away and the ones that remained I feel I could handle them without begging to go to the ER haha

Yeah 3-D, I am so glad that you are finding truths, insights and changes of view that are not only positive, but are helping your anxiety and it's symptoms!

I once read that our anxieties are rooted in one of two core fears;

Fear of not having enough...
and
Fear of not being enough.

I truly believe that both of those can be answered by faith. I also believe that we have to use our tools, ie., therapy, education, medical intervention, meditation, breathing, relaxation, ect. to the best of our abilities.

But yes, faith plays a big part of healing, so keep exploring this! (just be careful to keep your posts somewhat neutral, as to not exclude or offend another member's beliefs)

I know you were not trying to preach and I appreciated your insight completely. Again I thank you for sharing. I took out my edit as I did not want you to feel I was judging in anyway. 


A faith-based worldview directs minds and hearts away from modern day graven images toward an alternative sense of the meaning of life.

I do feel  the power of faith and belief is real power. Believing that you can attain your goal is of great importance for its achievement. I have found faith to be my best friend in my darkest hours.
