Hi dga and welcome. I am so sorry to hear all that you have gone through the last couple of days! It is very scary and confusing dealing with health issues exascerbated by anxiety/panic! We have many members who have both anxiety and health related anxiety, so you are certainly not alone!
Assuming that your cardiologist gave you the green light to exercise, proceed with slow, but steady steps. I have no underlying health issues, but used to, when my anxiety was at it highest, have exercise induced panic attacks. The body gets hyper-sensitive to change, and when the heart rate and breathing increase, it can trigger a p/a. Try to slow your breathing and use a calming mantra such as "I'm okay, it's only fear" When the feelings pass, resume your walk/hike, ect...
I really recommend breathing and progressive muscle relaxation exercises every day for the management of A/P. I just posted links for some, plus instructions for my favorite breathing technique in another post. I'll post the link here as well.
https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=9&m=2064222I wish you the best in dealing with all of the changes you have in your life currently! The good news is that you are aware of what is happening, and have the power to change things for the better! Good job and keep at it!
Feel free to post anytime with us, and if you like, visit the heart/cardiovascular forum as well. Both are full of great information, and support!
Take care,
