Upping Dosage

Sorry I haven't posted for a while...

but, my Dr. wants to up my Effexor XR from 150 mg to 225mg per day since my anxiety and depression are bothering me again and I have no motivation.  It is the generic Effexor now, and when I got the prescription filled, the 225mgs are tablets instead of capsules.  Has anyone increased from 150 to 225?  If so, did you have any side effects since you are already on the medication?  Has it helped?  Etc...

Any information would be appreciated!!  Any time I have to change my meds or increase, I get nervous!

Hi there,

I was on 375 of effexor xr for a very long time. That is the highest dose that you can take, and it worked well for me. I saw no side effects with dose increases, but I didn't get any side effects anyway. If you are on pills, make sure you don't miss a dose, because it can be nasty. Make sure you take your scheduled dose everytime. Are they extended release or just regular effexor. Since it has went generic, I don't even know what it looks like anymore. I took brand name. But I know when I took the pills instead of capsules, it was rough if I missed a dose. But it is a really good medication. The only reason that I switched was because my doc wanted me to try pristiq. And that is very good too, but very expensive. I wish you all the best. IF you have anymore questions, feel fee to ask.

getting by, thank you very much for you helpful information on the increase. They are still extended release, but just tablets like I posted earlier. I never miss a dose!! lol I know if I do and it is horrible.

Kitt, thank you also, for responding. Yes, I felt great on the Effexor for a while. I was on it years ago then was switched to Celexa for a while then back to the Effexor. I have been on the Effexor for about 2 years again now? I was getting to the point again where I knew that the medication wasn't doing all it should be doing since I am getting anxious and depressed again...not to the point where I don't do anything, but I try to never let it get to that point. So instead of switching me right off the bat, my doc wants to see if the higher dose will work first. I am hoping it helps, because I hate weaning off of it. The only thing about the Effexor I don't like is the increased sweating!!
