on zoloft and worried about the dose

I started on Zoloft a little over 2 weeks ago. I carelessly had too much to drink last weekend and the next day the anxiety was off the charts. I realize the increased anxiety was probably a result of the alcohol, but I visited my doctor anyway to discuss and she increased my dose from 50mg to 100mg. I don’t want to take a higher dose than I need and I know the drug usually takes 4-6 weeks to fully kick in. Should I go back down to the 50mg and wait it out before upping the dose? If you go up and down on doses, will you become immune to the medication?

I would suggest you take your Drs. advise on the medications and if you truly do not want to increase you current dose talk it through with your Dr.

I can't say what you should do other than what your doctor wants you to do. It prrobably was the alcohol that caused your anxiety. I wouldn't drink if I were you. Did you tell your doc that you drank and it caused the anxiety? You should have, she may not of increased you. Stop drinking. It causes depression and anxiety. Then see what happens. But you should call your doctor and explain to them what happened and see what they say. I am sorry, but we can't tell you how to take your medicationns. That is mainly between you and your doctor. If she knows about the incident, then I would say yes, go with the increase. How is your anxiety now? Is it better? Was it just bad for that one day? I hope that you feel better soon.

I did tell my doctor about the drinking, but she increased the dose anyway. I assume I can go back down once I know how the medication will affect me. I just don't want to get used to the higher dose and then not be able to go back down. I am also thinking about getting pregnant in the next 6 months and am really nervous about being on medication so I don't want to be on a higher dose than I need.

I think you should follow your doctor's advice. But when you decide to get pregnant. Tell your doctor before hand, you may have to go off the medications. Best wishes.
