Jury Duty tomorrow, anxiety in full gear

I've never done Jury Duty, and I've dreaded being called. The whole thing has me upset and anxious. Not only do I feel anxious about serving on a jury, and the questions they ask you, I also have Crohn's Disease. Which I told them about to begin with, and let them know that I could need to use a restroom at any time. I didn't get a doctors note because I really don't think my doctor would give me one. He tends to think I can handle most anything. eyes Just take a few immodium and be on my way. *sigh* Getting up early and going somewhere, that I'm already nervous about, is a disaster waiting to happen for my guts.

Hoping this isn't going to be as bad as I think. cry

Hey Jen,
I think it's normal to feel a bit anxious for jury duty...especially first time. I remember my first time, I was really kind of anxious at first....but once it gets started, you will probably find it fairly easy to focus on the case and not so much anxiety...pretty good diversion. So try not to worry to much...even though I went in with lots of anxiety, I found it to be really interesting and was glad to do my part....I think you will be just fine!

That is the way I felt about it 4 years ago but I only managed to get a 6 month reprieve from my Dr. so in the end I had to show up in June and I was chosen right away for jury duty.  Once the ball got rolling it was fun.  And I got paid $10.00 /day.  shocked Made friends with the 12 people on the jury and for 10 days I enjoyed the whole trial and deliberations.

I got up at 6:00 AM to give myself plenty of lead time to get ready and then came here to HW and just answered posts. It is truly amazing how you can get to know people in 10 days and then you all move back into your own private lives.  Kind of like school.

You will be OK.

Hey Jen, chances are you will be dismissed...which still leaves you with getting up and going tomorrow...but maybe you can treat yourself to something nice for trying to fufill your civic duty;p (new shoes hmmm?)

In the event you do get selected, you will probably get involved enough like WM and Kitt mentioned, that you will be okay...and if you feel comfortable, you can let another juror, or employee (the baliff?) know of your needs to have freedom to use the facilities at will.

Good luck, and remember at least, now they can't call you to serve again for awhile! (I think it's 5 yrs or something)

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone! Hopefully it won't be as bad as I'm thinking. I guess after years of hearing about people trying to get out of it, makes you think it's gotta be awful! I'm still hopeful that they will let me go because of my needing free access to the restroom. I know I'd feel bad having interrupt if I get sick, and I know they wouldn't like it either. Just do my best, it's not like I'm applying for a job or something, so I'm not sure why I'm so nervous!

Hi Jen

I have been called for Jury service on two occasions and I was anxious about going. The first time I went I got selected my name was first out the hat Doh!! the second time I was not selected. The case I was at lasted 4 days and as the others mentioned you are all in it together and every on had the same anxieties. Let us know how you get on.

You know you can be dismissed for medical reasons & anxiety is one. Years ago I was called & I just sent back to postcard telling them I had sever bowel problems and there was no way I would be able to do it. Since my i.b.s. was greatly affected by my nerves & worry. They didn't even ask for confirmation from a Doctor they just dismissed me, no questions asked. Good luck to you.
