Hi All

Every thing seems to just go wrong with me at the moment. Have lived in the property I am in for 6 weeks and have just started to settle in but found out today that I have 8 days to move out. The landlord has put the rent up and said we either pay the new rent or move out by the end of the month.

I have no job at the moment and having been living with friends so I am in a bit of trouble why is nothing easy???

Hey Ben,

Sending you hugs accross the pond.  Today's economy is affecting everyone and I am reading many posts in the forum of people with financial struggles such as yours.  I am feeling the crunch here at home as both my hubby and I are retired so I can understand your fears.

Is your landlord allowed to do that - raise your rent on a whim and give you 8 days to get out if you cannot come up with it to throw you out in the street ? There must be some law that protects renters from highway robbers like this guy !

Grrrrr, it makes me feel angry toward someone who would do this.  I wish I had a great solution but I am afraid I do not .  Please know that I am here for you and my email is open so use it if you would like to.

Hey B, I know that we have renter's rights here, but not sure about your part of the world. Even so, sometimes it is more of an ordeal to try to settle these disputes, than just find another place.

I am worried that a second move, on top of the stress, and the health stuff might push you too hard at this time! In any event, can you get some temporary help from your family?

I wish that I could offer more ideas than this. I really do believe that in any case though, it is important for you to take care of yourself, so please prioritize your health!

We are here for you as much as is possible, but make sure that your support system there is strong as well. Like Kitt said, you can always e-mail as well.

Thank you for all that you do here for our forum, and keep up hope, things won't always be so rough (statistically speaking you are due a break soon!;p)

Thanks for the hugs. The landlord is the farther of one of the guys I am staying with so bit of a family feud. I got an appointment with my pdoc on Tuesday so good timing.

Yes it has come at a bad time on top of everything else that is going on at the moment. I am living in England at the moment and do have a good support network at the moment with the mental health team, Doctor, Anxiety management group and friends. My family live up in scotland and that would be a back up plan.

My anxiety in ok at the moment due to my anxiety group but I am starting to feel sucked into that depressed way of thinking and just not feeling well. Thanks to both you and kitt you are always here for me and the first to reply to my post I really appreciate your support.

I am so sorry about your living arrangements right now. I know how difficult it can be not knowing where your going to be next & no means of financial income.

Last Sept. I was Inpatient for a couple weeks & 2-weeks after discharge my husband kicked me out into the street with just my car. Then he stole it in the middle of the night. I was homeless for 3-months. I'm back with my husband, married 23-years & we have 7-kids.

This landlord is cruel. In the USA, we call what he did, "Bait and Switch!" There must be some recourse available to you.

I pray you will find an affordable place to live.
