I stopped lexapro cold turkey for 5 days now. The brain zaps are getting worse and very nauseous. I'm feeling weak and head hurts! Emotions are coming back. I started to cry a bit yesterday while watching a sad movie. When will the zapping stop?

Hello Rediscovery,

Welcome to HealingWell.  Some individuals may experience withdrawal syndrome for several months after cessation of Lexapro.  Individuals should work closely with their doctor so the doctor can monitor their progress to see if cessation is the right choice for their lifestyle and state of mine.

IMHO, weaning from the AD without  the benefit of your Dr. is often risky.

Yikes, I didn't know prescription anxiety meds had addictive properties. sounds like its even worse than the anxiety to begin with. are there any meds that don't get you addicted?

Hi good to meet you and welcome to HW. I take Lexapro and have done for a while and have also been on a few other AD you should never stop an AD cold turkey especially Lexapro as you will get withdrawal effects I would highly recommend you go and see your doctor and from my experience would say you should come of these med very slowly and with the supervision of you doctor or pdoc.

Hi, Rediscovery, I am on Lexapro too. After reading online and researching other AD's, I'm practically terrified of weaning myself off of Lexapro someday, since adjusting to it in the first place was so unpleasant.

I wish you luck and I will keep you in my thoughts! Please keep us posted.
