Hello HY Forum Members,
My name is Dr. David Vogel. I am a Full Professor of Counseling Psychology at Iowa State University (http://www.psychology.iastate.edu/~dvogel/). I have recieved permission from forum moderator Peter Waite to include this post in your forum.
The stigmatization of people with mental illness is widespread in our society. This stigma has been shown to reduce self-esteem, rob people of social opportunities, and prevent people who would benefit from mental health services from seeking care. Accurate measurement of this stigma is an essential part of the high-quality research upon which effective anti-stigma social-marketing campaigns are built.
I am conducting an online research survey study on the validity of a new scale designed to accurately measure the stigma surrounding mental illness, and how this stigma impacts individuals’ willingness to seek help from a mental health professional.
This study is being conducted with the permission of the Iowa State University Office of Responsible Research (IRB# 11-265; http://www.compliance.iastate.edu/irb/) and according to the ethical guidelines of the American Psychological Association (http://www.apa.org/ethics/code/index.aspx).
I would like to invite the HW forum members to confidentially (and voluntarily) participate in this survey study, which can be viewed here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/StigmaMI
Thank you for taking the time to consider my request,
David
