Hi,
Sorry to hear that your not progressing as you would like. As skitt
mentioned not all therapists will be a good fit. I would reiterate your
feelings to yours and ask them specifically what plan they have for
you, what you will be working on. Granted this can be a loose plan,
and is contingent on what's going on with you, but still they should
have some idea (especially after six weeks) of how they are going to
help you. I also agree it's up to you to put the work in but it has to
be with the right person to help guide you there. This does take time,
but if your not satisfied with what her plan is and how well it matches
your goals, then try someone else. The last therapist I met with was
not a productive counselor for me. Basically all he did was listen to
me and say a few very obvious comments which I for most part was
aware of. I made the mistake of confusing feeling comfortable with a person for
effectiveness. Yes you should feel comfortable with the tpst. but there
not there to be you friend, and sometimes might tell you something
uncomfortable. Anyways, in retrospect I was pretty new to therapy and
now would approach a perspective therapist with specific questions
regarding their therapy and my goals and see how well they mesh
together.
Good Luck
