Klonopin- anyone have side effects with it?

Hi everyone!

I am new to this board. I normally post on the Ulcerative Colitis board, but had a question. I was on Fiorciet everyday for the past four months or so to help me "cope" with anxiety. Obviously I was abusing the medication. :( I spoke to my neurologist and he put me on Klonopin and had me stop Fiorciet cold turkey. I felt fine the first two days and now I just feel weepy, in a fog, blah, reluctant to do anything, and not my cheery self. Just wanted some input if anyone has had a similar issue. Thank you! :)

I never took any sleep medication until I was prescribed Clonazepam (Klonopin). 2.5 mg is fine for sleep. 5 mg will leave one exhausted, sleepy, uninterested in getting going during the day.

I feel that it may slow down metabolism a little, so if you're an older person, watch for that. Otherwise, it's a wonderful sleep inducer, as is the anthistamine medication, Xyzal 5 mg (by prescription only).

The feeling of being in a fog, weepy, etc. are related to depression, in my experience. I found that artificial sweeteners are notorious for causing weeping in me. It takes about 3 hours of drinking nothing except water to counteract the effects of the acidity of artificial sweeteners. I suppose it has to do with sensitivities to chemicals.

I'm not a doctor, obviously, and can't recommend what you might wish to do; I can only tell you what has been beneficial for me in regard to anxiety and insomnia.

Good Afternoon,

Not to alarm you, but Fioricet contains the barbiturate Butalbital. You should not go cold turkey on barbiturates without a doctor's supervision. Possible side effects from prompt withdrawal include convulsions and delerium, which can start within 16 hours of cessation and last up to 5 days. You have to wean off of Fioricet slowly from everything I know. Klonopin may not be your problem so may I suggest you call you neurologist and tell him how you are feeling.

You did not post what your Klonopin dose is as well as how frequently you have been instructed to take it.

Once you get past the weaning period then looking into ways to deal with your anxieties without medications may be wise. Know we are here and we support you.

Hi. Thank you for replying. I am on one 0.5 mg of Klonopin a day. I take half in the morning and half at night. The last time I took Fiorciet was Thursday of last week (12/29). I felt fine at first and was put on Klonopin. I have an intense headache on the top of my head right now....really bad throbbing...and feeling very tired and weepy. The dog was barking and being annoying and I broke down. :( This is not like me. I called the doctor's office twice and waiting to hear back from them. I don't know how I am going to teach tomorrow (I teach 6th grade). I was off last week for the holiday break and thought changing meds would be the best time. My doctor told me to stop the Fiorciet and start taking the Klonopin. I don;t know what this is. :(
