Hi and welcome jj,
Good question!...
Many people benefit from the combination of medication and therapy. CBT is a form of therapy that helps you to recognize and change the negative/fearful thinking that is at the root of anxiety and panic.
Unlike simply talk therapy, CBT employs exercises, worksheets and habit changing steps to retrain the brain to think in a postitve and productive way. This helps to lessen anxiety and its symptoms.
It would be great if you could look into it. Your doctor could possibly get you a referral to a therapist in your area who offers it.
In the mean time, keep up with your medication...it does take time to build up, level off and start to help.
You may also want to have a look at our Resource Guide (main page 3rd post) there are links to sites that teach relaxation and breathing exercises. They are very effective in beating panic, when practiced daily.
Keep posting with us. We are a supportive group who is always here to listen and understand.:)
