First anxiety attack ever and very scared

Some people will have a single, isolated attack once and never again. I think that is why so many doctors prescribe medication initially, for the short term, in hopes that is the case.

Unfortunately, for many of us, the first attack set our bodies and mind up for more. When this happens, it is then regarded as panic disorder, and therapy is recommended.

Medication can lessen symptoms and reduce the anxiety...therapy can help you to deal with the anxiety and get to the root of the issue that is causing the panic.

Together they can work to reduce/eliminate the panic...and help you to manage your anxiety...so yes, it can get better:) I no longer have panic attacks after therapy, but I still watch my anxiety levels very closely. It is something that therapy has taught me to do for myself.

Tell your doctor that things are not getting better, and ask for a referral to someone who can offer CBT and really get you going in the right direction for your panic treatment.

Keep posting, and look into therapy to give yourself an idea if it would help you...it is highly recommended by, and has helped many of us here!
