Oh yes, I used to feel afraid to fall asleep every night when I was having panic attacks...I really believed that I would not wake up! Well, several years later (and after treatment) I am still here...with only the occasional sleep problem:)
Have you tried any breathing and progresssive muscle relaxation? They can really help you come down from a cycle of anxiety. We have links to instructional videos in our Anxiety-Panic Resource Guide (main page, 2nd post) Give them a try and see if they help.
