I am sorry to hear that you are in such a panic cycle right now. I am wondering how much of it has to do with your illness? Have the hot flashes only been since you've been sick...like a fever?...or do you have them often with panic...some people do. Illness can wear us out, body and spirit, so hopefully as you feel better, the panic will subside.
The involuntary swallowing is weird, and yes, I have had it. Do you remember the old Scooby-Doo cartoons, when Shaggy would get scared and *GULP!*...it is a common enough symptom that it has become a somewhat iconic representation of being in a fearful situation! You're not alone in this.:)
If your meds and coping mechanisms are not working anymore for you, then you might want to consider a therapist appointment. If you already have one, then make a call and get an urgent session set up. If not, then you may want to start looking into finding one that could help you. You can get a referral from your doctor if need be.
We have a great Anxiety-Panic Resources in the mean time, where you can find some self-help ideas. There are links to instructional videos that will teach you breathing and relaxation exercises...even if you know some already, these may be different enough to help you out a little now, and break you out of the cycle...it's worth a try.:)
