Hi and welcome!
I am sorry that I missed your post until now (been really busy!)
I think that this is a good question...but one that may be impossible to answer.
You can never be sure what exactly set off your anxiety, or what the cause of it was. Like any chronic issue, anxiety I believe is a predispsosition that is in an individual, which is set off by a trigger.
It could be environmental, illness related, emotional, chemical...who knows? My husband has type 1 diabetes, but wasn't dx'd until the age of 39! We don't know what 'flipped the switch' for him, but the potential for it was always there since birth.
No matter what, or how you came to have the anxiety however, the important thing now is how you are going to manage it. I hope that you are finding ways to lessen your stress levels and learning how to cope and accept the issues that it carries with it. I am really glad that you have help with therapy...that is extremely valuble. If you think that you would benefit from some self-help books as well...I encourage you! I found a combination of therapy and reading many books on anxiety really helpful!:)
Keep talking with us here as well...we are here to listen and support.
