Today was going good.until the man that was fixing our house said what he did. So my mom asked if he's parents are still alive he said only his mom and his dad had died from cancer. Then my dad asked what type of cancer and he said he got a lump of fat that he got operated almost just like I did. He didn't know that I had just had surgery. He said he got one and thought it was insignificant and he got operated and later more came out.and turned out to b cancer and he diedat 35. my mom just looks at me at cuz she knew that I would panic.now I'm crying.

Deep breath now...I know how you are feeling...it is hard to not get scared when we hear something disturbing to us. It is not unlike getting scared when watching a horror movie...it is not actually happening to us, but it is still frightening!

Try not to get caught up in 'magical thinking'. This is a term in the psychology world where one believes that things can happen just by thinking (or hearing in this case) about them.

The thing is...it only seems to work in the negative right? We hear something scary and we automatically think, 'Oh my gosh, this is gonna happen to me!'

Well, if you had heard this man say that his dad had won the 30 billion dollar lottery, would you think that you were naturally going to win next? Of course not...because you know the chances of that are completely remote...and just hearing about it doesn't make it happen. Well, the cancer fear is no different!  Thinking/hearing about it does not make it real.

Try your very best to relax. I know that this is taking longer than you would like to heal...but you know what? Acute anxiety takes so much out of us that this is often the case. The more you can be calm...the better and faster your body can do what it is trying to do.:)

Thanks SC, I just don't see the light. I feel like I've entered a dark tunnel and there is no way out. My abscess is still draining after two weeks of operation. Fear controls my life now. Scared of the doctor dating 'it's not healing you might have something else wrong'. Ex. Cancer. That's the only thing that come to mine which I know that's there's many more things I may have. It sucks living like this and I'm only 19

Sounds like you are having a tough time at the moment and I hope you feel better soon. SC has given some good advice about trying not to get caught in the magical thinking as that will only make things worse try and stay in the moment the best you can and know that we are here for you and will give you all the support we can.

It's so hard to be positive when you're body is showing you other wide. I want to be normal again before all this happened but I think this will scare me mentally greatly. life seems to scary now and dead seem to even though I know it had to happen. Idk done days I'm ok then bam negative thoughts hit me with any slight comments of death or people sicknesses.
