So, Im a 20 year old female and I started getting panic attacks about
five months ago, and now I feel like my entire life is never going to be the same again. I think i've always had anxiety but I never realized that's what it was until I finally had like a mental breakdown, and started to research exactly what was going on with me. I finally thought I was getting better, but I still manage to worry myself with irrational fears. I guess the thing that gets me the most is the fact that this is all in my mind, and alot of the time I think I bring the worry on myself, even though I feel like I can't help it. Anyway, I just need some encouragement because I don't really talk to anyone about
this, and I feel like I'm trapped in this situation and it's not going to get better. Please offer some encouragement!!!

I felt very similar to you a while back.. The one thing that always could calm me down was music, especially playing it. Piano or guitar because you are so focused on your fingers...the anxiety kind of evaporates through the fingertips. It's actually an amazing feeling. But I am sure that drawing, painting, sculpting... anything that you have true passion for could do the same for you. Just remember you are never alone. Ever.

Ah thanks for the support. I've always been a perfectionist. I like when I am in control (of myself). It's so hard to think that this could happen to me. It bothers me because I don't feel normal anymore. I can't really talk about
this with my family or friends because they won't understand. Well I do have a friend who I pretty much tell everything to but it doesn't really change anything, only makes me more upset that I am no longer the same person I used to be. It's emberrassing too because someone who has never experienced this would probably think i'm crazy, and sometimes i think the same thing. The sad thing is it makes me dislike myself. Its so strange to me that I KNOW that i feel strange and have weird irrational thoughts, yet I can't do anything to stop them. Basically im just reallyyy frustrated. Don't really see any hope at the moment. Glad to know I'm not alone in feeling like this.

Hello Anutkabee!
Perfectionist? Control? Welcome to the club!! :) Based from what i've read which jives with my own personal story, Those traits are very prevalent with people who are predisposed to anxiety and panic.
From experience, I know it is a gazillion times easier said than done, but i'll say it anyway. Learning, no matter how slowly, to relinquish control and be less demanding of yourself seems to be a well accepted path towards living a less anxious life. You see, anxious people like us love to problem solve! And we keep on trying to solve our anxiety, which makes it bigger and bigger with all the rumination and scenarios we play in our heads. If its ok to suggest you may want to read > THINGS MIGHT GO TERRIBLY, HORRIBLY WRONG: A GUIDE TO LIFE LIBERATED FROM ANXIETY BY KELLY G. WILSON PH.D
It is written in such a personal and friendly manner, just like having a nice conversation with the author. It uses the ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) model.
Good luck and keep us informed :)

Hi there :) I also just wanted to say that I feel the exact same way! I have been in recovery from anxiety attacks for almost a year and at times I still don't feel like my care free self :( but I have noticed a huge improvement from where I was. I have a history of being extremely hard on myself... U know the whole perfectionist bit... So I've learned how to congratulate myself over even the most simple tasks. Good luck! We're all pulling for you :)
