For the past couple days my upper muscle on my left arm has been feeling weak. Last night my left leg fell asleep and it woke me upn from my sleep. Right now I'm experiencing a numbness only on my left side and I have no other symptoms. I'm 24 female and non smoker and non drinker. I'm terrified its a TIA. Or stroke and so badly want to go to the ER buy was there 2 weeks ago for real issue and had cbc done so I'm guessing that would have shown something. Can this really be anxiety? Its totally a new symptom today me if it is! The numbness sensation goes from my face to my toes one help!! the left side only. Please help!!

How are you feeling now? Is is possible that you slept very soundly on that side and compressed some nerves? I have had to buy an ergonomic pillow because I was waking up with my arm tingling and numb every night. I would curl into my side and compress my brachial nerves.
You do not have any risk factors for a stroke...and numbness is only one symptome anyway...and there are so many more likely reasons for it, so I think that you can relax as far as the TIA worry goes.
If it does not improve today, then perhaps a visit to your doctor or chiropractor would be a good idea...not the ER though as this does not sound like an emergency.:)
Let us know how you are doing soon,

Thanks S.C.! Funny, I work for a chiropractor and he thinks it sounds something a little different than a pinched nerve and there are not really typical signs of any one thing. He says to visit my PCP and get checked out. I'm still feeling the numbness some, not horrible. I think that dwelling on it is making it 100x worse and it was hell just getting out of the house to take my kids to daycare and get to work. I had severe anxiety on the way!! I am really uneasy still. Very little sleep and a ton of worry are not a good combination as you know :) I have an overwhelming fear as I have mentioned of dying and leaving my family and so everything that I feel I go right there. This website helps me so much and I've for the most part been doing pretty good with my CBT therapy and all. This is just a major setback and thats upsetting in itself. Again, thank you for your reply! Your words are always comforting!

I have a doctors appointment today. I am having an anxiety attack just thinking of the possibilities. I have to have an answer to calm down. I have already been told its not a real typical thing as I mentioned above so I am just freaked out!!!

Hi JPE004,
I'm not sure what can be causing your left side to go numb. Hopefully it's something minor. Try not to take it on until the doctor lets you know what's causing it. Everything will be okay
Keep us posted.

UA,
I went into the doctors today and she is not sure what it is, she did some simple testing (reflexes etc) and everything checked out fine so she is not thinking anything major. No stroke or anything due to my age supposedly and signs but she is referring me for an MRI of my head and to follow up with a neurologist. Better to be safe than sorry. I am just having a really hard time not knowing what is wrong and I'm super anxious and its staying pretty constant. I have had two opinions (as I work for a chiro doc) and he seems to think its cerebro-vascular in nature and my PCP doc isn't leaning towards that but not sure. Only time will tell and the appropriate testing. I just need to breathe, breathe, breathe! Its one extreme or the other for me and at this point its extreme fear :( The numbness is coming and going and is not constant. It hasn't happened again since last night but the anticipitory anxiety is miserable. I'm afraid for it to return and the more I dwell the more I start to feel sensations. Thanks for a reply and I'll keep you updated!

Yes, stay in the present for now, and try not to anticapte any scary senarios...you will find out what you need to soon enough...and chances are it is nothing worth getting worked up about
.
Do you know when your tests are scheduled yet? Keep posting until then, and we will keep you encouraged and calm!:)
Talk to you soon,
S.C.
